Warm up time?

I've always heard that driving your car before it's warmed up is the worst harm you can do to your engine... so how long should I wait or what engine temperature should I look for when starting my car for the first time every day before beginning to drive somewhere?

PS: I live in Orlando FL so it's rarely a "cold" start..

30 seconds to a minute or so would be ideal unless its very, very cold. If its super cold maybe 2 minutes for a gasoline engine. You want the oil to circulate then drive gently till the motor warms up more. Sitting around idling, especially when the motors cold is bad for it. Youbwant to start it, let oil circulate throughout, then drive it respectfully till ylu get some heat in the motor.

The worst wear happens when the motors warming up, you want to get up to temp as soon as possible without beating on it.

Most auto manufactures will tell you not to let your car idle but to drive it and let the engine reach it normal operating temperture. But I do let my car warm up for a few min before driving it.

Depending on the situation, and the temperature, i at a minimum wait for a few temp bars to show. Then drive accordingly till it warms up.

I let the idle come down to normal (cold start idle is likw 1200, wait for it to come down to ~700), and then go.

I take it easy for the first 10 mins and thats about when the engine is at temp.

most cars except turbo cars, you should do like others have said, start it, drive it respectfully until reaches normal operating temps and then drive however you want.

with turbo cars you need to let it idle for 30sec to min to let the oil feed lines circulate since the turbos spin crazy fast and want them nice and lubed before your ecu request boost once you put it in gear and go
