This makes sense -- and probably explains why the 7G is not being introduced into the '04 E55s.

Now the big question for me is -- do I wait until the '05 E60's? Or do I get the '04? If I wait for the '05 E60, I want a fun, cheap, "temporary" car -- any suggestions on what to do?

A article implies an earlier roll-out than 05!

What article and where?

The one in the web site I gave the URL for. Also go to the full MBSpy site where timelines for different vehicle introductions are.
Tell me also how you read it.

CLK55, Mini S
My bet would be the do a S60 and SL60, maybe a G60, for 2005 and in 2006 or more likely, 2007 they put it in the E along with some other "updates" to this currently, totally new design body and interior.

They can obviously tweek the SC'd 55 engine up another 40--75hp in the meantime to slap back the new M5 if they feel the need to.

The can squeeze another 120HP out of it. BUT that would be the limits of teh V* Kompressor, add another cooler here and there for fuel/transmission, they can easily get more HP. But let's not forget the new M5 will prolly be about 100 or more kg lighter.

The MBSpy timeline implies early 2004. I have no way of knowing how reliable their stories are.

I re-read the article, and you're right. They're implying early '04 release. At the same time, in the U.S., it seems like we tend to get our AMGs a little later than Europe, so it's anyone's guess when this car might show up here.

I thought the next big AMG engine was a 6.5 litre. Hence the new SL65 and CL65?
Did I miss something??

Is'nt 6.5 a twelve cylinder job? The 6 is supposed to be an 8. It might be only a slight modification on the 5.5 and a way to introduce the 7 speed and charge a lot more.

Also its presence would spoil the M5's buzz. Seems clever.
