W210 & W211 ?

Hi everybody!
I guess this will be my first post here.

Some of you maybe will laugh now, but my question is:
What is the differences between W210 and W211?
Is it just the new model and the old model of E-Klasse?
And the same goes for the CLK55: W208, W209.

If you have to ask that question you should change your name from "MercedesFanatic" to "MercedesNovice". Welcome.

It might be easier to ask what didn't they change on both cars.

My guess...
1. Lug nuts
2. Oil filler cap
3. Cigar lighter

They both use the same brand of turn signal fluid and the "Was-ist-das" button is in the same place...

The W210 turned in to the W211
The W202 turned in to the W203
The W208 turned in to the W209

and so on...

New car designs so they get new chassie numbers.

Has your service advisor ever told you that changing the "turn signal fluid" was part of a service B? If so, go to a differnet dealership...

The 211 is a complete redesign of the 210.
New sheetmetal, much upgraded interior, engine moved from 349 hp to 469 hp.
The two cars are very different.

The CLK55 upgrades from 208 to 209 were less significant, especially as regards the engine. Horsepower barely budged, and the 209 did not get the supercharged engine the new E55 has.
Remarkably, the new 209 CLK55 is priced almost the same as the 211 E55, despite markedly inferior engine and amenities.

Unfortunately it's a harsh fact of life.
Whether it's cars, computers, kitchen appliances, or home theaters, you have 'outdated' gear soon after you buy it.
But if you make a wise purchase and can distinguish between what you NEED to be happy and what the marketers TELL YOU you need to be happy, satisfaction shouldn't be hard to come by.

Stiggs, you have to remember that many people (like the original poster) come here to get info about cars they're interested in buying. Comparing and contrasting is a necessity.
No one is saying your CLK55 is not a great car.
My comments are made only to contrast it with the E55.

There was nothing in the original post that relates to the question "which should I buy?" MercedesFanatic, or should we say Novice, seemed simply unclear about what the model designations (W210 & W211) stand for.

Just because I don't know what W210 resp. W211 is, that makes me a novice, thank you.

No need to go off on a person for asking a question. I know a lot of people who have different Mercedes models and have no idea what chassis number they are.

Relax and take it easy, nobody's "going off", just being playful. Hence the -

It's not even my joke, E55 Kev gets credit for that.

you'll with the 55s need to shut up...I only have a C32....

nahh...just playing...

as for the price of the 209 55. I think they had to price it that way because after all the 208's msrp was only couple hundred cheaper. New car will always be a little more expensive. As for the 209 not having the kompressor, I guess you guys with the 211 E55 can look at it as you guys got a bonus pkg since the price didn't increase that much over the previous model yet you get a lot more power. That way, the 209 is not overpriced, but the 211 is underpriced.

John,
You show you have a Valentine 1, did you install it and hard wire it or did you have someone do it? My 02 e55 came with a passport so I have run the 2 side by side and there is no comparision between the two. I need to jerk the passport out and hardwire the Valentine. Input would be helpful. thanks

I did it the hard way. I ran the wire from the cigarette lighter, under the left dash, into the pillar, and under the roof padding. Go to www.evosport.com , there is is an article on how to hardwire from the light console under the sunroof. Good luck.

I did it the easy way. I paid a car stereo shop 25 bucks to run the wire behind the window moulding and under the A-pillar trim to be connected to some live wire under the dash and freeing up the lighter.
