Filter on TB v. CAI piping to front of car?

Anybody with a filter right on their TB? If so, can you post pics and provide part numbers?

I read GT-R's response on this topic and his personal experiences. I thought I would do a little experiment myself. I currently have Hadilaws CAI with the plumbing to KNs in front of the car (behind grill). I want to see if a filter right on the TB will make more power. I will do a before and after on the same day.

But first, I need to know where to get the filter that will or can fit right on my 80TB? Anybody know part numbers or suggestions on where I can get them?

Thanks ahead for any response.

I tried this on my E55 and it lost a decent amount of power. The stock airbox made more power. On every forced induction car I've owned I've seen the oposite but I guess the oem airbox in the E55 flows decent enought that any restriction is offset by the cool air entering the engine vs. the filter on the TB.

The stock air boxs flow well enough for the 168 pulley and 82mm tb combo. I know because on the dyno I took the air boxes off and find virtually no gain.

Running a big filter on it with the hood open and a fan blowing cool air does make more power. Now if only I drove around like that. I've done a lot of testing with intake ideas but that was with a ported 82mm tb and a 195 pulley so I was at the point where I was really needing more air. The best I found at the time was 3.5" pipes into a custom Y pipe and I would make more power without filters.

If I understand everyones personal experience, on our E55s the cold or fresh air from a CAI makes more power then a filter right on the TB. In that case, I will leave my CAI on and move on to another project.

That was my experience...30whp loss by the underhood filter.
