Two Days Away from my E63, inspection help
Finally found the one. It pulled up and my wife and I immediately said, "that's it". Everything on the car looked great, still doing ppi tomorrow at an indy mb shop. Anything in particular to look at? Its a 07 low miles, wondering if anything besides the basics? Is there way to check # of over revs?
Thanks. Can't wait to show you guys.

awesome. it's a great car when you find the right one. definitely before you do anything, look up the vin number on car fax or some other source and see if everything checks out. then to the car you go. start it with the key, then turn it off and start it by pressing the brake+the start/stop button on the shift knob. then listen to the car warm up, then idle. if you hear clicking under the hood, politely walk away. use your ears and listen in on anything suspicious. then have someone rev the engine lightly and keep listening under the hood for any strange sounds. then take the car for a test drive AND HAUL @$$ IN IT. make sure there's no tranny slipping and gears are shifting properly . it's not a rough ride in that car by any means, don't let the dealer or anyone tell you it's supposed to be rough since it's a "fast car". oh and i forgot to mention, before you even start it, check to see how low the car is. if the tires are tucked in, the airmatic is bad. if the fender is sitting ~1" above the tires, you're okay. all the door opening and cool convenience stuff are the last things you check. good luck!

Also, you should do a search in the W211 AMG forum for all the engine problems with this car.
Be sure to have a lot cash set aside for gas
Lastly, be sure to buy an extended warranty.

Ok, so here's the scoop on what they found:
1) 2 wheels were bent, but repaired, looks like the might still be very slightly bent. I drove at 100, didn't notice any vibes. Nor did the inspector. But, mentioned 1 was cracked but repaired. They are 20"s, so concerned with that for sure. No idea how good/bad of a job that was but assuming any repair of a cracked wheel can't be great
2) RMS leaking. Nothing serious, but will drip a bit. Inspector said it's normal, but should think about doing it at some point
3) Motor mounts leaking
Other than that, he said it's a solid car. I had a 911 where the RMS was a major deal. How big an issue is that on this?

From the AMG forum:
"The transmission needs to come out... IIRC, its 6-10 hrs at the dealer"
Also appears to be $800-$2700 job. See this thread :https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...main-seal.html
Read that thread, as there may be other leaks that APPEAR to be the main seal.

For the 996, it wasn't JUST the RMS. The IMS bearing was the one that causes catastrophic engine failures.

Since you had a 996, you'd know that the only reason why the RMS was a "major" deal was because of the labor time to lower the transmission. Any car with an RMS leak would require the transmission to be angled and/or lowered to replace the RMS.

RMS leak is just a leak. That was the point of my first post. The RMS and the IMS in the 996 are loosely related but mutually exclusive. Similarly, an RMS leak for any other car is just an oil leak.
