Help with Rear Main Seal
I need help finding a rear main seal kit for my 2005 E55. Stealer told me there was a leak several months back. I had my car at my indy mechanic recently and he told me the same. Now the leak has gotten worse, so time to repair.
Can anyone give me a link or tell me where to buy parts needed for this repair?
Thanks!

The seal is cheap, but the labor is going to hurt. I was curious about a main seal repair last week and called my local dealer a few days ago and they quoted 7.5hrs for the job and $1100 total including the part which only about $25.
My leak turned out to be transmission fluid and came from the plastic collar on the side with the two o-rings.

Best bet is the dealer for the parts.
You need:
End cover
new bolts for flywheel as they are stretch bolts
the seal itself
trans fluid as you have to drop the trans and drain
might as well do oil change when your there as when you remove the end cover you will lose some oil
when you have the trans out might as well flush it, change the trans filter, and do the electical plug as well.
Also check that your indy has the trans tool to check fluid level.
Not a fun job and very time consuming...

Dealer just told me my rear main seal was leaking, but my garage is bone dry. Price quote was $1,120. Any harm in waiting until I actually see an oil leak?
Last year they also replaced some transmission seals: Parking pawl seals, conductor plate, transconnector. This was a costly job, and it sounds like it may have been beneficial to have done this work then.

Rear main is probably not leaking, what is leaking is the plate that holds the rear main. You will get a leak typically if you resealed your valve covers/pcv chambers, the rear plate is part of the pcv system and once you seal up the upper leak the pressure is now on the plate and it starts to leak.replace the plate, seal, flex plate bolts, and change the oil,I like to let them sit for as long as I can to let the sealant cure before I add oil.

Matter in fact I did my valve gasket seals a few months back! You are spot on. How is this labor wise? Does the tranny still have to be dropped to do so? Any more detailed info on the parts, procedure etc?
Thanks Mbtek, you always have some insightful and accurate info!

Yes,you will have to drop the trans.,remove the flex plate, remove the bolts holding the rear engine plate on(don't forget the 2 from the bottom).install the new plate after cleaning,I use a rear main seal installer tool to put the seal in,some people use a piece of wood or ? they have.Time wise I would say 5-7 hours depending who is doing it,experience level and are you using a lift or on the ground.

C55 RM Seal
My dealer just informed me I have a "small" leak on my rear main seal; because it's a "big" job, (no pricing provided), he said they would watch it for me. I've had good service from this dealer, although they are expensive....$135/hr for labor.
I have an extended $500 ded warranty that should cover this repair. However, it expires in 4K miles. So, my question is, should I just bite the bullet and get the repair done now or prior to the expiration? I really like this little car and have enjoyed driving it for the past year, so I'd prefer not to sell.
I've been reading some of the other C55 maintenance threads, and just saw one about a "bent" crankshaft that appeared out of nowhere, no warning, and is going to cost $7K or better to repair......this has me concerned about letting this kind of leakage evolve.
The car is a stock C55 AMG with 73K fun miles. It has been dealer maintained, and is otherwise in good shape. Just had my A service done (for $700 no less, needed some filters and work on the washer system).
Thanks in advance, all responses will be gratefully appreciated.
