The E55 Navigation System
Though I am not 100% certain, I believe that Mercedes-Benz had to abandon Harmon International as its DVD navigation supplier due to its failure to meet spec and to engage Alpine to develop a system for the E-class as rapidly as possible. This would account for why a DVD navigation system was not available in the E-55 2003 model.
Therefore, the above pictured DVD navigation display may indeed be from Alpine and intended to be installed in the 2004 E55.

The new supplier is Harman/Becker:
"The delay occurred when Mercedes-Benz switched suppliers of the Comand system from Robert Bosch GmbH to Harman/Becker Automotive Systems GmbH in Karlsbad, Germany. It was not clear last week whether Mercedes is offering to take back E classes in other markets."

Guys I have a 2003 E55, with DVD Navi it is indeed made by Harman/Becker Automative systems. www.becker.de
From experience I can state the pic posted by MSV is not from this system but from Alpine. However I find this system much quicker and it is great to all of europe on one dvd.
I can post pics if required, additionally as some of you guys might know (I did not), the navigation signals also come up on the speedo.

that would be nice if they could disconnect the teleaid service if we didn't need it after the 1 year, and use the wiring to install the comand
