Wouldn't you know, an RS6 just moved in down the block
I was leaving my house yesterday when I saw one of my neighbors blow by in a new Audi RS6. I chased him down a few blocks away and pulled next to him. When asked him what he thought he said "very fast." In reply to my question why he chose it over a new E55 or M5, he said that the Audi was faster. I will be changing his mind in a few weeks. Street or track, I'd smoke him. Maybe with a few months of practice, he'd have a chance.

You haven't read any of the umpteen comparison tests reported thus far.
The RS6 gets smoked by the E55 over and over.
It's not pretty.

They are hitting the streets---I just saw my first RS6 yesterday at a Starbucks---it pulled in while I was getting out of my car---it was brand new--8/8/03 tags. It sounded great--it had the black tipped sound-enhanced exhaust. After the women driver got out and went in---I got back in my car and pulled up next to it. Obviously I am biased, I own an E55, but the car did not do much for me--IMO--it is closer to the A6 than the E55 is to its E siblings--it did not help there was bird crap and bugs splats all over it. Again, the RS6 just doesn't come off as a $90K car. Honestly, looking at the cars side by side, just made me feel that much better about my choice.

The RS6 is a completely different ride.
The RS6 is a four door sports car. Definitely not as fast as E55 especially over 100 mph. It is definitelly a very entertaining car and good for short haul driving. The E55 is a totally different environment - much more comfortable and luxurious and much better sound system and features.

I don't want to sound like someone who suggests that the E55 is always a better car that the RS6. They are different cars and have different strengths. But sheer acceleration is definitely the E55's strong point. I would be inclined to agree about the test drivers and the traction advantage that Audi has. But the advantage this allows is not as great as one might think. Look at the 0-100-0 article in Road and Track:

Here the tester of the E55 simply left the ESP on---and pushed the accelerator--this is something I think that I could handle--novice that I am. The RS6 and E55 have a good race (because of the RS6's better off-the-line traction) until around 60 and it is over. If you take a rolling start---it is over when it begins---if you consider a highway comparison--starting at 60 mph or so--same thing---advantage E55. The RS6 will shine right off the line to less than 60mph and when it is wet and on the track.

M5 sucks,RS6 can't keep up,my dads dick is bigger then your dads.Get over it.The E55 is an awesome car,period.But the other 2,have their own greatness.I'd be happy with any of them.Being a Benz guy I'm partial to my brand,but I don't go out of my way to justify my purchase by knocking the others.Im sure many of you even look down on E500's.Doesnt matter,your cars DO NOT look any better then my white Lorinser,in fact where I'm from there arent any white Lorinsers at all.E55's barely turn heads,but my setup does. I do see quite a few e55's(Hamptons and NYC mostly),and they are always in the silver/black just like most of you.Your kits are nice,just too subtle.The car is definetly a sleeper,which is a good thing considering all the power under the hood.
In fact I have started to see alot of posers already with the full AMG kits on e320's and e500's, granted at a green light,you guys will know whos who,but to everyone else?Its just another AMG.You have one of the best sedans in the world,people know it,and you should know it.Be happy and stop worrying what the other guys are doing.Flame away if you want,just stating my opinion.......
