Can you explain what makes it annoying? I've been considering this as well.

I set mine to -10c and the problem is at idle at an intersection the fan will go to 100% and sound like a 747 airliner taking off (people staring, rolling up windows, babies crying, that sorta thing..) its pretty loud. I set mine to -7c and have been very happy. The fan will hang around 30% at idle now. I dont know what the big deal is dropping our temps from 190-200f to 180f anyway engines need heat to make power too, look at corvettes they run around with 230f coolant temps all day, nascars run around 210-220. Your air intake temps are what you wanna work on lowering.

Look at the bigger spectrum, aluminum melts at 1220f, what are you doing lowering coolant temps by 10f Besides PISSING ME OFF!?!@

LoL JK, guess its just personal preference just dont go lowering your temps so much that your ECU goes back into open loop mode. Have fun. Mmmm more coffee

Bingo....You want the engine to run within a certain temperature range, and optimal power is usually a tad warmer ~200 - 220. The only benefit I can understand is that maybe it cools the supercharger more when you are at a stop sign or driving slowly.

I think it would be better to just get a split system, a big tank, and a Killer Chiller - cool AIT make power.

  • anytime you hit a drivethru window, expect to shut down your engine
  • sitting at stoplights, people will wonder why your car is so loud
  • your kids will say 'gee dad, your car fan is really loud'

other than that - it's great

You guys are wasting your time.you are fighting the OEM thermostat and the engine will run at its set temp either way and that fan will run full blast.

Get a 10d lower t stat and be done with it like I did 2 years ago

I think I have one laying around but its a 160or 170d temp and will cause the car to throw an engine to cold code when the temps around under 40 outside.

I was seeing 177-185 coolant temps in 85d summer days with it installed and it never saw over over 190.

Im back to stock now and it sits from 188-195

Well I'm in FL so I doubt that, lol
Mine is a 176-180 as per PTE, he said going with 160-170 might throw codes on those cold nights, I could have gone with it but decided not to

Temps are steady at 185-190

sounds like a 180d temp

in florida you can get away with a 170 or even a 160 but up here it gets 10 below lol

I probably could have gotten away with it but SOMETIMES (not very often lol) it can get into the 40s or 30s and just didn't want to go through having a CEL for that

The one I have works well staying at 185-190 in 95-100 degree weather

I remember driving the car in second gear at 3k rmps for like 10 min and the coolant temp never went over 169d lol

Why do you think you need to open the Tstat sooner ? Often folks add a lower Tstat to cars running too hot, because of other problems, rather than addressing the real issue. The ambient temperature really should not necessitate changing / lowering the Tstat IMHO. You don't want your car to run too cold, optimal temperature is greater than 180...

I had my e55 out in Palm Springs when it was 110 and the car ran the same temperature as when I am in Laguna and it is ~75. (Obviously IATs were different, but lowering the Tstat will not change IATs.)
