$540 for a trans service...

Just got TAGGED by the stealer for a $540 trans service job on my 07 E63...HOLY CRAP.

9qts of $20/qt fluid...and $300 in labor. I am in the WRONG business.

On a side note though...it does shift firmer and better..BTW car has 39,000mi on it. SA agreed that the stupid book says that its only a one time service is false and that its required EVERY 40,000mi.

Also that Im down to 4mm on the front pads and that the rotors are $1000/ea...but he recommended just swapping out the pads as my rotors arent close to service out spec....dont buy that one

Sorry for the rant...I love the car and my wife DD's it 50miles everyday and LOVES it as well.

Guess high replacement parts and STUPID high service bills are part of owning a high $$$ German Sports car.

I paid $350 for the dealer to do mine and replace the connector. I thought they did an actual flush or I would have done it myself. They did replace the pan gasket though.

Just paid roughly $150 for my tranny service today at my indy's MB shop. New tranny pan gasket, new tranny filter, and oil

Go find a new shop. I do get somewhat of a hookup since i know him and take care of whatever he needs at his properties through my company but i think what they charged is a little outrageous.

Is the service on the 7g trans really more expensive than the E55 ones??

I find it hard to believe, but I actually called a couple other local, and non dealers today...all said same price between $500-$550 for the 7g trans.

7g trans require more oil. usually 6-7 range, but 9 qts. is dealer markup for sure. It's just a pain to pump the oil back up through the drain hole. I think that's why it's more expensive when compared to the 5g E55 trans.

I believe the fluid capacity is more on the 7G and fluid is more expensive. Also, it is a pain to pump it back in from the bottom. You also have to check the level using STAR.

I belive you meant 1999 e55?
The tranny in those cars came sealed and not meant to be serviced.
The same tranny in a W211 E55 does require an oil flush

Lets get this straight, people don't do their homework, ask what something will cost in advance, or get other prices to compare and then are shocked with dealer costs? Use your head, you just bought yourself an education. Yes the cars aren't cheap, and if you can't afford dealer service then try to learn how to do things on your own. Why not go to an Italian restaurant and complain that you were charged $17 for 50 cents worth of pasta. Seriously, find out labor rates and what is expected. If the cost far exceeds what was quoted stand up for yourself at the dealer or independant and don't pay for it. Argue or dispute the charges. Most people don't want to bother and instead just take it. In the future it can be prevented with a little effort. Once you open your mouth you will be shock how much a bill can be reduced. In the end they will still want your business. Goodluck!!!

They need to be serviced every 40k. (pan drop, filter replacement, around 4 qts. of fresh fluid) Same with the w211's 5g trans. There is no such thing as sealed for life. It's cheap insurance when compared to the priced of a new tranny.
