Rave E55: I kind of agree. I was thinking about taking all of the badges off but that starts the "de-badge or not de-badge" debate. I think I will at least remove the V8 Kompressor badge on the side though. In the past weeks I have seen two or three S55s that were completely de-badged. And I saw an SL55 without badges today on the way to the office.

I removed the V8 Kompressor badging off the side of my CL55 . The letters always looked cheap to me and after a while in the hot sun the letters get off center and start to rotate.
Looks much cleaner without them.
As a side note, one of the 8's in the V8 was upside down as well. I didn't even notice it until I was removing it.

Badge delete looks cleaner IMHO, especially without the V8 Kompressor on the sides. On the back, the quad pipes say more than enough!

Whenever I see the Kompressor badging , I can't help but remember the pitiful C230 Kompressor 4 cyl service loaner I drove once. The thing sounded so pitiful at start up and idle - like the cheapest rental car in the Avis lot. I say debadge it.

Are you the type of person that would remove E320 and add E55 and AMG on the rear? Does that make your E320 faster or something since you think that the word kompressor on the side of an E55 conjures up images of a 1.8L C230.

I'm considering de-badging the entire car too. The ones of seen recently look good. But I don't think people will wonder. Those that know this car (which, I think, is pretty much everyone on this forum), will know badges or not. Those that don't (and I hate to say it) just won't care.

Before most of you guys decide to de-badge the car, keep in mind that I see plenty of posers that would go to EXTREME length to make the car look like an AMG.
ie: -putting AMG body kit all the way around
-installing quad exhaust (can you believe that!)
-last but definitely not the leaset they remove the E320, E430, & E500 badges to replace it for an E55 AMG.
(Note : I’m NOT referring to the E320, E430, & E500 owners who chose to install plenty of AMG kit on their car because they keep their integrity, by choosing to keep their original badges in place.
I’m mainly referring to the few individuals who choose to install the AMG esthetics and have plenty of guts by also placing the E55 & AMG badge on. I say this because when another car pulls up to “the poser car” & end up getting ripped, then it brings a bad name to Mercs and AMG. IMHO)
Just incase someone might say, “well to each is own”.
Yes, I agree, but come on…doing all those changes and to top it off, placing an E55 & an AMG badge, just to “fit-in” or just to get “patted on the back” (not until they get beaten by another car that may have less HP’s, but just have lighter bodies or another car that may have more HP’s period.)
dont you guys agree?

I have to disagree with most of you, but it looks real nice the V8 Kompressor badge, most people at least here locally in Orlando they stare at the V8Kompressor badge as they are only 4 2003's E55's around here in town. I don't think it looks bad at all, but hey I know everyone taste is different.

The min. I glanced at your "location" I would do the exact same thing.
Hell…if I could I’d drive it with two doughnuts, one at front-left and one at rear-right. (the skinny doughnuts) LOL j/k. hey you can never be too careful when it comes to NY.
…but then again…Southern Cali’s got it bad too, considering this is the state that has the most cars.
(Hence = public transportation not being used as much as east-coast states ie: subways, trains, etc….
1st of all subway system in Cali? God forbid you’d get trapped underneath when “the BIG ONE” starts shaking the ground! and end up looking like the blue smilie. LOL)

I think the fake badging (poser) thing is more prevalent in Calif. than it is here in the midwest -- I don't see it much (or maybe I just think I don't). In any event, the de-badge or not to de-badge debate is one of those that is owner-specific.
