Which is faster and which one do u guys recommend? e55 or e63

I have the deposit on the white e55 2006 in Mass. They have been running me around a bit and I am scheduled to go sign the papers on Sat. morning. I really wanted white and I wanted the e55 but now with the hassle that 'they' have been, plus the 250 mile hike, I am second guessing it so...there is a couple of 2007-2009 e63's around me and I am debating on going to see them this morning...they are a couple of bucks more but just wanted some input. Which one is faster stock (not planning on too many mods really) and how is the reliability on the first year e63 compared to the 3rd year, 2009? I was looking at cars with 70k miles or so and wondered about these few things. Just in case I pass on the e55 in mass. and someone here wants it (I am 70% still going with it but...) then PM me. Thanks all in advance..you have been a great help!

E55 is a little faster due to the torque but on back to back to back runs it is going to lose power from heatsoak and may lose to the E63. Then of course with the supercharger weather plays a fairly big roll as well and you can see very larger variances in performance.

You have stock E55s that in great cold and low air density weather have trapped 118mph in the 1/4 and then stock ones that run 108-110 in warmer weather.

The E63 is obviously a better car from improvements made all around but with the supercharged engine of the E55 you have that easy tuning path to make them have significantly more power. I suppose technically you do now too for the E63 with the Weistec supercharger, be it a very expensive mod though. The large torque on tap of the E55 down low is certainly nice, I can say that.

But having said you are looking to keep the cars more stock (maybe just a tune at some point?) the E55 is going to put it to the E63.

As for reliability of the E63 in different years, you will have to wait for someone else on that, I am not sure. I do know they still have airmatic suspension issues that pop up from time to time though like the E55.

The E63 will be quicker in the streets, but the E55 has the torque up top.
1/4 mile times are different. There have been a few stock E55 with drag radials that have hit 11.7's and 11.8s s in the 1320 footer. The fastest stock E63 with drags is 11.9@118mph by oldgixxer i think.

2009 E63 has updated interior acoutrments...speedo, black headliner, radio, bluetooth....

I'd say go with the 55k unless you can afford a 2009 e63. The updates they made to that year are worth the money.
Plus if you plan on racing or modding, less than 2 grand will get you an easy 100hp on a 55k car. You can't come close to that on a 63.

I debated the same thing when I was about to buy my car E63 vs E55 vs M5 , lol after driving all three I ended up buying E55. I learned and read somewhere that a factory turbo or supercharged cars always have more modifying potential, so I went with that. Mine is still stock been 2 and half months.

Sorry Toadster but that's funny!

I do have one 2009 e63 to look at but I was pretty sure before my search began that I wanted an e55 because of earlier research I did and you guys seem to confirm my decision. I will look at the 09 e63 only about 20 miles from me with similar mileage as the 55 that I have the deposit on but it is $13k more. They have it listed for $37k with 71k miles and it is also white with pano roof. I'll check it out but I should probably just get this 2006 e55 with 70k. I am sure we will be back and forth throughout the day but I will say Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Personally I would go with the E55 simply because of how easy it is to make big horsepower numbers without spending a ton of cash.

one car at a time
In stock form the two cars are not that different in terms of performance, cost to own, or reliability IMHO. That said, if you want to modify just slightly - tune & pulley or more, then the e55 is the winner in my book. For ~$3-5K, you can easily add an additional 100 - 150 whp to the e55. The huge low end torque of the e55 makes it a great street car.

E55 is the way to go. If you want newer, just skip the non boosted E63 get the the new E63 turbo.

If you are serious about not modding it you should 100% get an E63.

But we all know there is no way you will not mod it, or you would already be looking at an E63.

Get an E55.
Don"t worry about year or mileage, just make sure all the appropriate maintenance and upkeep has been preformed.

An E55 at 125K mikes, with the correct history, is much better than an E55 with 60K and no history.

Then call Eurocharged and take delight in embarrassing just about anyone foolish enough to play with you

Sold - 05' E55
The E55 is Boosted, and starting to get dated (I don't mind though)
E63 is NA, and its a little newer

Consider a simple mod to the NA E63, LT Headers, and a tune.

I'm not a big fan of the 6.2. My stock CL55 was faster then a 6.2 CL63 from a dead even start from 60 mph. I do not even know why they would basically down grade the engine in these cars. Should have went straight to the 5.5 twin turbo.

Well, the 6.2 is regarded as one of the finest engines ever created by more than a few automotive engineers, journalists and insiders.

The big displacment, performance, all motor car is a dying breed.

Granted it is not as mod friendly (as any NA vs boosted engine is) but the exhaust note, and overall smooth power delivery cannot be matched by an m113K...period.

Dont get me wrong, I am not about to trade in my 55 for a 63. But,if we are talking 2009 (with tech and looks upgrades) I could be very happy with that ride as well.

I currently have both (stock). When I bought my e63 a few years ago I couldn't get up the courage to unload the e55 as I had so much fun in it. My simple take, anything from a dead stop in a straight line the 55 all day long. But the NA motor, 7-speed tranny and its ability to slam downshifts going into a turn and hammer away coming out give it a nimbleness (for a 4 door mind you) the 55 can't compare to. Bottom line its all about individual tastes. If I had to choose, it's the e63.

juste for the exhaust sound the new interior and the wheel and new bumper i like the look of a stock e63 more than an e55 but more torque for street car is always the best
