New guy
Hey all. First off, happy thanksgiving! Second, I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. As im sure you have guessed, my name is Nick and I am new to Mercedes and will be taking delivery of my 06 E55 tomorrow or Monday. The car is black with black leather with 71k on the clock with pano, keyless go, heat/vent/dynamic, lighting package, and maybe a couple other little things I'm forgetting all for one killer price.
I have been lurking and reading up on the wealth of knowledge and expertise on these boards and can say I feel I'm among a great community of owners and I'm eager to make some of my own contributions to better serve the group. As I live in Houston, I Know that once I assess the condition of the car and make any maintenance steps required I will be doing some cooling mods and then most likely be talking to Eurocharged since their Houston shop is just right down the street from me. I've heard great things of them and I'm sure they won't steer me wrong.
Sorry if that was long winded. Look for pics as soon as I get her off the truck!

Thanks! Once I get it the car will be going right into my shop to get some minor things addressed. The previous owner painted the stock wheels black and put a blue lip on them so I will be taking suggestions on a paint color. I'm thinking a darker silver/titanium color. I can mix just about anything you can think up so let's here some ideas! Also, they tinted the headlights which I'm really not feeling so that is also on the list to go. The rest of the lights/chrome have all been blacked out already. I'll have to wait to see the car to decide how much of that I will let stay like that.

Moosejaw, I saw your location and immediately thought you were in Houston as the Rockets are definitely on that list of teams
Not to hate on the Rockets, but I'm originally from MA. Celtic pride!

Got the car today. So far it's what I have expected and has a pretty loud top end ticking. I pulled it into the shop and immediately went to work. I found most of the intake lifters were a little flat and I have it narrowed down to insufficient lubrication. I'll be dropping the oil pan tomorrow to check the pickup tube for obstructions. The top end otherwise looks great with no signs of sludge so I'm pretty confident that when I get the oiling situation addressed I will have a pretty bad *** ride! I paid 12,900 for the car by the way. Everything else is completely functional.
Also, the car had some cheap non fleece oil filter in there which I'm sure is playing a part in this. Oem filters and VC gaskets ordered and ready to go for Monday

$4,000 more would have gotten you a 2006 Honda with more miles: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EX-L-...t_17385wt_1167
So, the moral of the story is? It only takes a Honda 5-7 years to be more valuable than an AMG.
BTW, Congrats OP and good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. If I was looking for something 100% run and drive or an SUV, i'm sure that would be great. I run an independent repair shop and I knew about the problems with the car when I bought it. It appears to be a fairly simple problem and when it is fixed, I'll have one hell of a car

Thank you! I pulled the pan down today and found bits of old oil filter resting in the bottom. Mostly around the pick-up screen. At some point, this car had a filter disintegrate and get consumed by the motor. Initial inspection of the screen and oil cooler/lines, valve train, timing chain etc. show that the remnants didnt make it far around the engine. I cleaned up the bottom end, resealed it, and tossed on the valve covers with new gaskets and put an MB oil filter in it. After about 20 seconds of run time the lifters pumped right back up and is getting significantly quieter by the minute. Looks like we have a winner! Its going to stay at the shop this weekend and i will run it around for a few days next week and most likely drain the oil and change filter again to be sure I have most of the gunk out of there. Look for pictures soon!
