What a terrible way to treat a customer. The shop knowing that you brought in your own part to be installed should have told you on the spot what the risks were and to protect both sides, an agreement should have been reviewed and signed.
It is easy for the shop to just ignore that and in the case of a repair gone bad, they can easily throw it off on you.
I think you could prevail in court on this, but realize that to do so will cost you bucks as billable hours are not cheap.
But on principal, the shop really sucks no doubt.
Good Luck on your efforts to get this resolved and get your beast back on the road.

was he working on behalf of the dealership or was he doing the job on the side at the dealership?
the dealership in my area wouldnt even install a oem crank pulley i wanted to buy from another dealer. they were sky high so i said ill get and you install it. they declined.
take the car to buckhead imports and have them install the asp and pin it. done and finished without worry

Boy, not much of a favor.. I dont understand how they can screw up the install and then hand you with a bill for the damage of the botched part they installed.

the tech is our friend and we always take it to him he is master certified and somehow somewhere he read something were it was suppose to be torqued at that number. Its me and jamy who take the cars there and usually do aftermarket mods and maybe he wasn't that familiar with the pulley and thought it would be same tq specs. Hes very smart young guy and always does nice clean installs on whatever we ask him to do. Yes seems like he made a mistake and am sure he would of fixed it had the manager there not told him it isn't covered due to it being an aftermarket pulley..
anyways were gone go tomorrow together and check it out and talk to them again...

Like I said early on, just go to someone like BIP and have it done properly....If you think you are going to get the dealer to pay for the fix, you are wasting your time and energy....

It sucks, but this is a hard battle to win....or even to gain any ground on. The problem lies in the aftermarket part. This is why most Dealer Service Centers (of any Car Manufacturer) will ot install aftermarket parts. Techs are trained to torque to factory specs, and many simply do not know that a manufacturer requires a different torque rating for their part.
Sucks that his happened. I went thru a similar experience a long time ago. Now, I ensure that I give installation instructions for aftermarket parts. Sometimes pisses of the techs....but oh well.

Man..my heart goes out to you. I cannot imagine the sinking feeling. I hope that the situation gets resolved with little out of pocket for you. I support the comments regarding your Tech taking this on and not knowing what he was getting into, there has to be some recourse or retribution for you.

I haven't torn that far into one of these yet, but wouldn't it be easier to just pull the damn engine? lol

Yeah, he said that the key was lodged in there real good. That is why he had to do all that work plus he is going to change the sc oil for me and install new motor mounts.
