Strange knocking noise in supercharger???
Great, well my stupid a** decided it would be cool to remove the intake and go for a spin with the throttle body wide open to hear how loud the supercharger whine would get... well it's LOUD AS HELLLLLL and awesome. BUT, after I parked the car and started it up again now I hear this knocking noise (see video). The car is fully warmed up and still pulls and runs fine, no error codes either. Pretty sure the tempo increases with rpm but hard to tell because the rest of the car noise drowns it out.. my only guess is that the throttle body sucked something in?? I have no idea but I'm praying it's something minor

Before you do anything, remove the belts and start the car to see if the noise is still there.
My car made the same identical noise when my power steering pump failed and it started to do it out of the blue ( not little by little, just all of a sudden ).
Remove the belts and check again. If the noise is still there with the belts off, then pull the supercharger ( it still spins with the belts off due to vacuum so removing the belts won't exactly help if it's the supercharger ).

Sheesh. Not good. If you think that is loud, you should have heard my car when the oil pump ate it. A whole bunch of flat lifters makes it sound like you have a bag of marbles bouncing around in your valve covers
I'd follow GT-ER's advice first, then crack her open and start looking.

Ok starting to take the belts off now. No idea how to remove them except for the supercharger one.
BUT, with the car off I spun the entire supercharger clutch/pulley with my hands and it will spin freely and then get stuck about 1 rotation round and its hard as hell to push past that point and spin around again. Also when it stops it sounds like the noise it makes when running..

I wrapped a leather belt around it but neither I nor my friend dare to hold it while I start the car lol.

Sounds like something caught in the rotors. They should spin freely always. The tolerance between the two rotors is very tight. Hopefully whatever made its way into the blower didn't damage it.
Sounds like maybe a weistec may be an upgrade in your future

****.. any ideas how I can completely disengage the supercharger so that I can drive it to the shop without it knocking?

I suppose you could just keep the supercharger belt off but if the blower won't spin under vacuum of the engine I wouldn't imagine the car wouldn't run well.

Do yourself a favor and throw it on a flatbed. Why take the chance of having more pieces getting sucked into your intake. I think hooleyboy is selling a SC on the forum.

As far as the accessory belt goes, feel around the bottom of the tensioner pulley, there will be a 17mm attachment on the tensioner bracket (you cant see it but trust me its there). Get a ratchet & 17mm deep socket on there and rotate counterclockwise. Draw yourself a cute little diagram so you put it back on the right way.

@Jakez, Do not start the engine again, either tow it to a shop or if mechanically motivated remove super charger for a good look, sounds like with your description of rotating the SC and the video you have sucked something in. 1, Possible to remove the throttlebody and with a good flashlight and mirror possibly can see something ( not likely). 2, I would recommend removing the SC and disassemble it to see what the issue is, but the noise does sound expensive. If you drive the car an a piece of SC gets sucked into the valvetrain or worse into the combustion chamber, you Christmas will be ruin as well as your wallet. Take care.

I installed a TPC supercharger on a 996 and when inspecting the blower I found it near impossible to turn at one spot. Come to find out there was a packing peanut stuck to one of the rotors. Even something that soft and fragile is enough to jam up a supercharger. Hopefully it only ingested something small and easily removable. Do not continue to run the car until you have isolated and solved the problem.

Sorry to disagree GT-ER,
I"m hearing with your thinking that with the belt off everything is okay and the SC is not driven, but with the engine running anything that is binding the SC could possibly work free from the vacuum of the engine. Not being a gambler, running the engine would be my last choice. Dis assemble and inspect would be the most frugal method. A piece of SC material stuck in an engine intake valve or foreign material in the intercooler will not make for a happy day. Worse case the SC is pooched, but at present thats all, Do Not Run it is not worth it.
