Evap or Vapour Canister?

Hello,

So I was going to get my subframe bolt fixed and engine light came on. I told dealer to check that out too. When car got fixed and all they told me that the engine light was " M AMG has updated Emissions Thresholds and limits as well as Spark and Injection timings , so upon inspection found an engine update and performed engine update as per DAS recommendations "

They said the light was on for "vap canistor or evap canister leaking" and before we replaced that we thought let's try updating it and after that it got fixed and now I am to monitor if the light comes back on.

Can any one of you tell me which part is it exactly they are talking about, I have the links here , engine light didn't come back on but still just to be prepared.

The vapor system has many lines and components that can cause a leak code to come up. Could be as simple as a cracked hose or canister, or even a failing gas cap. I'm not sure of the validity of the programing update the dealer offered so keep us posted. Also, maybe some of the guys that have the fuel sender leak issues could chime in. To me, if they have an issue where a gas tank can't maintain a certain pressure and the fuel tank pressure sensor gets wind of it, an error code for evap system leak would be very likely.

The smell is not in car's cabin it's only on the outside and there is no fuel leak on the floor either. Would you know which one of the above is the so called evap canister though ?

Mine smelled like that before. Warranty replace the charcoal canister and gas cap and the smell went away. Didn't look at the cost, sorry.

Pull the seat and open the cover to get access to the fuel pump...my guess is you have the infamous w211 fuel tank / gas leak issue....

I had something similar happen to my car but we never found a fix. I had the car in the shop 3 different times and they did multiple smoke tests and could never find a leak. I eventually got so frustrated with my car I had to get rid of it. I was taking it into the shop every other week for something new.

I find it interesting how if you keep the gas below ~ 3/4 full, gas leak / smell issues seem to go away...

It's not the infamous "fuel sender unit leak under the seats" it's from outside. Is the resonator suppose to emit fumes too when parked? Once I'm driving there is no smell in the car whatsoever and the tank is full right now.
