Single air filter?

Has anyone tried putting like a small pancake filter on the throttle body? I know it would be sucking in hot air but would it be a bad airflow like that?

Not a good idea. Even though you may be gaining some air flow, the hot air will pull timing.

unless the hot air can be addressed, I still think a cowl induction hood would be neat, although not really very functional with a S/C based motor

Thought ive read on here that the hot air issue is irrelevant since its supercharged and the air will be cooled afterward anyway..? But yeah what youre saying makes sense I guess.

No, it's very relevant. The hotter air you are sucking in the hotter it will get after it is compressed. You want to start with the coolest air possible so your intercooler will be able to get the temperature of the boosted air closer to ambiant.

When you suck in very hot air, your intercoolers can't cool the air down enough and you get heat soak quickly and it kills your HP. 1% hp loss for every 10 degrees of heat. Sucking in hot air over 200 degrees is not a recipe for making more power.
