E55 Airmatic leak Rear end drop

for a few weeks now the rear of the car had started to drop overnight, over the last week, if left for half an hour or so would start to drop, this morning I even got "Car too low visit workshop" message in the cluster.

Put it on STAR and this was the error

Had booked it in earlier this week to get it on a ramp to find out where the leak was coming from. Paid a visit to the workshop this morning, we could hear a leak on the passenger side rear which was a positive start!

Stuck it on the ramp, sprayed it with soapy water and we could see the leak coming from the strut resevoir as per pic below

as you can see below the part were the pipe attaches had corroded and there were 2 holes where the air was leaking from, and as this part is not available to buy seperately and you have to buy the whole strut assembly my Tech decided to do a repair.

After repair with metal epoxy putty, leak all fixed

So glad it worked out to be a really cheap (compared to what it could have been) fix!

Nice catch, if that happened to me I would def weld on a new pipe, I hope that epoxy will hold for you.

The Arnott replacements do not use an external reservoir.

....trust you have a wagon. No problem getting the reservoir out of its position?

Nope saloon, on a ramp it was fairly easy to remove

If and when replacements are needed I will go that route till then plenty else to spend the cash on.

South in fact the car has been south all its life, it's the road salt that is thrown on the road every winter that doesn't help.

The shop didn't have a ally welder and this was the quickest way to get back up and running, it should hold as the tech put two clamps on instead of one.

Sure does, may have to get a wax sealant put on for protection.
