MIR track rental 3/8/13

Hey, I was wondering if you are the same person who got some of your car work done by Soupie in Long Island. If so, this is Mu with the white slow Audi and you will be attending this event, please let me know. I should be in Maryland that weekend and would love to see your machine in action.

Unfortunately I will not be able to make this. I think I'm going to build the block and trans before I do any more racing. Going to be making some changes and selling parts soon. Maybe I'll head up there another time to try something before we tear it apart. We'll see.

They're predicting a pretty significant snow storm on Wednesday in Northern Maryland where I live, but I think Southern Maryland is probably just gonna get rain. They're talking maybe a foot, but you know how that changes by the minute. Since the SL doesn't get driven in wet or salty roads, it probably won't be making an appearance. I'll probably still come and hang out though....

damn...I know there is nothing that can be done about the weather but this totally sucks. My scheduling is difficult to change and this has been in the books for a few months. The forecasts are saying that the MIR area might get 1 inch of snow and Thursday will be rain free after mid day. Friday is clear as well so why are they cancelling...fear of a mega storm? Arrgh...vent vent

Weather forecasters here can't ever get it right. Might as well tell us everyday. Today the sun came up and in the evening the sun went down. 3-6 inches by Dulles airport yesterday now 7 inches and up. Right now it's 43 degrees

I swear between my schedule and the weather it is a wonder I ever get to the track....lol

I had a feeling MIR would cancel it; They didn't open last weekend because it was too cold and a note on their website said they had to be especially careful with cold temperatures until they get some rubber on the track again after sitting all winter.
I'm still in for next week.

They have had track rentals before that were so cold the burnout box had ice in it. I bet they will be kicking themselves Friday because this could have happened. Why not wait until Thursday to make the decision? I would love to see a web cam pic on Friday of a sunny/clear day with a dry track.

MIR just posted a pic and stated "the track is almost dry" on Facebook. How about the rental on schedule for tomorrow? Should be a perfect day. I knew this would happen. Not to be a "sour puss" but they should have waited.

It was a good decision based on the weather predictions.
It would be very hard to switch gears back to tomorrow without stripping the gears out for many people including me.

considering the scheduling necessary to make these rentals happen in my world, I think it was a terrible call. Now MIR is bragging on Facebook that "the track is almost dry" a full day before the originally scheduled rental. Whatever...I just hate hasty decisions based on "what ifs" instead of what happened/reality with the weather. If MIR will allow it, I still want to go tomorrow even if the turnout is less than expected.
