E63 amg - performance package questions
Hi Everyone!
I am new to this forum.
I own 07 E63 AMG Performance package (p030 I guess)
I have one main question about this car. I have searched some other topics, however could not find an answer..
Generally, this is the second year I am driving this car. Bought it from Germany.
The car is great! Except:
1. As the car has the performance package... the steering is tough... it seems to me that this was specially made for high speed and autobahns.. it is probably good for long distances..however it is not that good as simple e63 amg without the performance package...
when I drive...it seems like you are driving a very very heavy car.. the stiffness is just like on G55 amg (my second car)..
Yesterday..I tried my friend's e63 amg..without the performance package...and I admit to say that it was really fun... it is easy to drive.. the steering is so soft and easy... I don't even got tired after driving it whole day long..
my question is.... IS IT POSSIBLE TO SWAP THE NORMAL STEERING SYSTEM(NOT SURE HOW DOES IT WORK)??
I WOULD LIKE THE STEERING TO BE SOFT AND EASY
i was even thinking of selling this car and buying a 2010-2011 e63 amg.. without this crazy package.. but the price is more than twice more expensive..

Generally, what happens is:
It is easy to steer on the parking lot.. There is no need to struggle.. It is nice and easy.. Later when you drive the car and the speed increases, the power steering becomes stoff and heavy.. And it is not precise neither..
I think it is the parametric power steering..

i've got an '07, no performance package, and the steering is noticably stiffer than other cars I've driven, but I assumed it was designed this way, I mean it's essentially a streetable race car. At speed, you want that stiffness as little movements are magnified the faster you go.
This probably isn't but so helpful as I've never heard of parametric steering, but just saying that on my regular '07, steering is pretty stiff, but I've gotten used to it, and other cars feel extremely loose now in comparison, to the point they are hard to drive initially.
Maybe the '09s generally have loosened steering, perhaps because of similar feedback

I had an 07 and have an 09 now. The 09 is nicer. smoother overall compared to the 07. The performance package is a little stiffer but what you describe is an issue for the dealer to help. To my knowledge, the performance package has the same steering but has an upgraded steering wheel that will give you a sportier turning experience. Overall, the performance package is not that big of deal. It adds 8K in options and MB is not giving anything more than you pay for. The wheels and LSD probably make the most of it. My .02.

I really liked the w212 e63 amg steering.. It is so light and easy..
For comparison i have also tried s500 w221, with the parametric power steering.. It is also very light and nice.. As the speed increases, the steering gets just a bit heavier and more stable which is quite nice..
I will visit my dealer, but usually what they can do is jut to change the power steering to the same new power steering.. They cant do any upgrades..

How is your power steering? Is it heavy? Can you make any comparisons with other cars?
I also own g55 amg 2007, in comparison with my e63 amg, the power steering is almost as heavy... But the thing i like in G, is that the steering doesnt get heavier when the speed increases...
Also... Ive tried the s class s500.. It has a vvveeery light steering.. And with an increase of a speed.. Steering gets just a bit heavier..it just gives more cnfidence..which is nice,,.but does not get LAZY like e63...
Also,, the new e63 amg..w212.. has very light steering..
Ill try to do something with it...
