07 E63 Airmatic Control Module Problems

Well I'm sure this had to do with me getting that ELM put on and off. I don't know what exactly caused it, but on Monday, I started to get that "Malfunction" with the up arrow inside the car on startup, every startup!

No physical signs. Last time, over a month or two ago, my car just was dumped, and my airmatic control module had a tiny wire that wasn't connected all the way, the dealer, luckily, found that wire at the time and got it connected, barely. The Pressure Relief Valve needed changing as well as it was just tired of letting all that air out of the car.

But this was about a month ago the dealership had fixed that. Then this past monday, same dash warning, but no physical problems. They checked it up and down, and couldn't clear the codes. They said it was a faulty airmatic controller.

I tried a few sites but couldn't get a good price. I was wondering if any of you knew a good site to maybe pick this part up OEM. $1100 from the dealer before discount is brutal!

Luckily I got to sleep on it,

$1500 installed is half of a coilover conversion. And i'm sure this module is pennies to the other airmatic components. In the long run, i.e. revalve/respring'ing coilovers is much more in my favor as i'm not grandpa yet (sorry AMG i'm guessing this is who you marketed these cars to with the suspension? Okay, maybe a cool grandpa.)

Looks like i'm planning a trip to So Cal to see Serg.

Hey I was 21 as well when I picked up my E63, but the only thing that has consistantly let me down and everyone talks about on the boards here is airmatic failure. I haven't even had the struts go out yet, and i'm already dumping my wallet on smaller parts here and there.

Tell me about it! I've planned a trip in April to So Cal. I've thought about selling the car way too many times, but I can't get over how much vehicle I'm letting go for $22-25k.

Just as an aside, the "malfunction" on your dash will still be there with an E63 after you do the coilovers. The suspension is coded differently to the central gateway / instrument cluster than the E55, and cannot be eliminated (yes, even through dev mode etc...)

I've screwed with this for a while and if someone that has done this on an E63 can tell me differently, it's a tidbit of information for you to have so you aren't wondering what's wrong.

I'm sure others will say "if you dig deeper, I'm sure you can find a way". I've spoken to techs from MB and they've confirmed the difference in the coding and have also been unable to get it removed. I've also screwed around with it for hours and haven't been able to find the menu(s) to disable it like I could on the E55.

In any case, hopefully the coilover conversion will outshadow this minor inconvenience. As I've stated time and time again, I think this is probably the best mod that can be done to this car. The car finally drives properly.

No "malfunction" warning light. Never
seen it since I got the COILOVER done.

I stand corrected then. I'll have to keep hacking around then--lest it be a mechanical disable that I (and those I've spoken to) are unaware of.

And I may pick your brain on the matter if you don't mind, since this has been irritating me for some time.

Contact whipplem104, Russell install my COILOVER and code it.

My installer told me it was not that bad. Removing the airmatic components was time consuming. I drop off my car at 9 and it was done by 5.

So you have no error or malfunction on startup?

Thanks man, gives me more confidence. I lower/raise/adjust my coilovers on my Subaru STi all the time and it's so easy! This will be a whole new world to me once I get those coils on.

The rear is a PIA to adjust. No room for the wrench to turn.

I have the same problem with my STi as I have a X brace back there that connects to my strut top. I should make do. What brand did you go with? KW V2s?

The gas tank filler neck is in the way making it a PIA to get the wrench in. Yes KW V2
