To Everyone: New pics of BMW’s New Breed of counterpart for our E’s, C’s, etc…

Here are new pics of BMW’s latest counter part for our E-Class, C-Class, and couple of Merc roadsters.

Tisk! Tisk! Tisk!

Earth-to-Merc Headquarters, Earth-to-Merc Headquarters, wake up!
Start cranking out E’s, C’s, etc…that can (at least!) match up to this line-up.
(Considering how much money we all spend on our cars!)

Here’s are another dose of reality check for the Merc Executives…

www.bmwusa.com/thenew5

Fellow Merc drivers,

I have to admit, some of the new 5’s technologies aren’t too shabby:
(yes, despite the horrid look.)

ie:
-HUD
-SMG
-Active Roll Stabilization
-etc…etc…
(check out link above)

(BTW the new 545 = 345hp (stock!) vs. E500 = 302hp (ONLY!?!?) this is exactly one of the things I’m talking about. Merc always behind in producing HP’s to rival the BMW’s counter part for the E’s, C’s, etc…)

hellooo….earth-to-Merc Headquarter….let’s get with it.

***Just incase someone will end up saying, "well, why dont you just buy one then!......."

What I'm simply saying is this; as a Merc owner (just like all of us here) shouldn’t Merc get with the program and make counterpart with (at least) equal or greater in power?

Don’t you all agree??

The 6 series on the front cover looks really nice, can you scan the rest of the article?

Thanks

Calm down, if you think the only reason we buy MBs is because of horse power, then you are sadly mistaken.

So what if the E500 is short 30hp to a 540? The interior of the 540 is still to ugly to buy. As is the Pontiac exterior. Heck does it even come with an air suspension? I don't think the 7 has that let alone the 5.

The 545 will have 325 hp not 345. AMG has already addressed the power topic with the soon to be arriving AMG 65 models to the states.

We are not talking about AMG, we are talking about the "regular" line.

yay!!! your back, lets get this discussion going, i love to see these things go down

regular line, werent you the one who qouted the new 545i 0-62 in 5.8....so that means at tbest 5.6.......and the E500 with 23 less HP already does 5.7......now, with a new 7 spd auto, i have HEARD(i dont want you to say, how do you know this, you havent seen it!!) that it will cut off .2-,3 seconds, making it faster.

why do you want a car thats fast, but has a ride more like a civic

The cars featured on the cover of Autocar are all upcoming M division models. The whole article is BMW M division's future response to counter MB AMG line of present day cars.

one of seven
we also know that the current 3 valve per cylinder v8's will soon be replaced with 4 valve per cylinder engines of a larger displacement that = more power

BMW vs Benz

0-60 is almost useless anymore. Manufacturers stretch out gearing to make sure there isn't a shift just before 60mph that add several tenths to the time. Quarter mile and trap speed are much better indicators of who's going to win a stoplight drag race. The mags are quoting that the Caddy will run the 1/4 in 13.1 @ 109 which puts it 1 second faster than the current E500. 1 second in the 1/4 is an *** kicking!

I also hear that the DOHC's will be back too. Remember one thing the current modular engine that MB is using costs MB about 50% less to produce than their predecessor's, they have more valve train noise, a very slight roughness at idle compared to the previous generation but the torque curve, emissions and fuel economy is a better and they do have two plugs per cylinder. Most MB engines are less sophisticated than the current BMW brand, again for lack of 4 valves, DOHC's and no variable valve timing and no variable intake sysytems, it takes only 4.5 liters for BMW's V8 to produde 325 hp and 330 lb ft of trq vs 5.0 liters for MB to make 302 hp and 339 trq. In addition BMW uses inline sixes, and inline sixes are known for smoothness. The new direct injection engines from MB should be pretty cool...can't wait.

That's gotta be the CTS V spec... 400HP V8, it's going to be a damn nice car. I'm VERY happy to see a domestic manufacturer getting back in the game... the Lincoln LS was a pathetic JOKE. It needed 100 more HP and a design that looked less like a suppository. It did handle nicely but, no guts and the interior owed more to Ford than MB, BMW or Lexus.

times

That is the CTS-V. Price is supposed to be around $50K, which means it's more aligned pricewise with the C32, the E500 and the M3.

2002 E55
Autoweek are posting 0-60 for the CTS-V @ 4.6sec!!! Also, read the article in Car Magazine where they test it around the Nurbergring (sp?) they say it's more of a drivers car than the E55, RS6 and the Jaguar S-type R and easier to live with than the M5.
The other thing about the LS6 motor is, it's a low stressed american V8 and responds to tuning very easily and cheaply. 580HP is easily attainable for a few $1000's .
