Hey guys, i am at the end of my tether with this headlight.

Over the last couple of months iv been randomly getting left dipped beam message popping up, then it goes away, headlight starts working again.

But the other day my light went all together,iv tried the usual, swapping bulbs and ignitors around. Everything works on the right side, but nothing works on the left, bulb ignitor etc.

I got a faint burning smell, what could this be? i have been told its the ballast.

Can it be removed without taking the bumper off?

 

sounds like ballast or control unit both are under the headlight, you could put it on a ramp and see if you can get to them, but most prob bumper off, headlight off job, good luck!

 

whats a ballast & whats a controller? Whats an ignitor?

 

Ballast takes the 12 volts you have up to I think its like 20K volt for the Xenons. Controller, well, pretty self explanatory. It controls various headlight functions. And I think you have ignitors confused with ballasts

 

So the black thing on the back of the bulb called ignitor is actually a ballast?

 

I don't know exactly where the ballasts are, but I am sure someone here does.

 

nope, the little black box the bulb plugs in is the ignitor, the ballast and control unit are silver boxes under your headlight unit.

 

Sounds like you have a bad ballast. Simple enough.

On ebay you can buy an aftermarket ballast, they are made to replace the blown factory ballast. Does anyone have experience of these?

 

ok, iv had a look at my headlight, cant access unless i remove my bumper. But iv brought a ballast, now i dont know what the other thing is with the yellow sticker?

never mind, figured it out what i need.

 

Now my other side is playing up, it's occasionally saying right dipped beam but when I look its working, then sometimes it goes off & comes back on again. My left one did this couple of months ago, but now it's burnt.

 

Hi. My left side is doing this now on my G. By any chance did you try the high beams? Were they both working?

My brights work but my left side low beams are intermittently saying dipped beam. Possible the connector of the ignitor is loose?

Anyone else have dipped beam issues?
