Second pic you need to squeeze the piece off that is now showing. You can turn/twist it like a half turn to remove your old shifter, you will see that when you lifted up your leather boot. Remember not to twist your shifter off once you twist that a half turn or so just pull straight up.
Back to squeezeing that piece off is so you can put your Chrome piece on from your old shifter and the leather boot.

Fit all the pieces back on it from your old shifter as you where going to do anyway and see if it works ok and worst case you have to disassemble both shifter and swop parts. Be careful not to break the tabs when taking that off your old shifter just in case you need to use it.
