Anyone running 285/30/20 tires in Rear of W211 E55?
Hey everyone! I was hoping I could get some thoughts from some of you.... I have posted a few topics over the past couple of months regarding various wheel/tire sizes for my summer set on my E55. I moved to MN a couple of years ago, and the roads up here aren't great. I love the look of the 20's, but the roads make it not very practical. I am thinking about the Vossen CV3's for my E55 in 20x9 in front and 20x10.5 in rear. Normally, I believe this set up calls for 285/25/20 in rear, and I'm curious if anyone has experience running a slightly taller tire with this setup? I'd love to know if 285/30/20 would work? Thanks, in advance!

Imo 20's w285\25 in rear gonna be reeeeaaaal close to rubbing probly less 1mm clearance and any good bumpps gonna cause impact to inner fender(unless u roll fender a lil bit) When I bought my 07 e63 it had 20's on it but for plenty claerance they were 255\35\20 in front and 275\30\20 in rear. The rears were waaaay too narrow for the rims,it was probalbly the absolute min width that they could get away with for these rear rims... Also afforded NO rim protection which was why the outside lip(s) were all beat up and dinged. Before I purchased it I had dealer put on new (2011) dbl5 spoke AMG rims in 19 inch dia they are 9in front and 9.5 in wide in rear and with 255\35 wide front and 285\30 rears. Front was never issue with space, and now rears tuck up sooo nice with barely enuff room to get a fingertip between top of fender and edge of rubber. I'm not lowered or anything btw. Also, added benefit of fitting max width of rubber on the rim is now got great rim protection (they not super expensive but hey 750 dolls per is good for bunch of gas!). So fwiw 275 prob max width on 20's unless you roll inside of fender a lil bit.Others here might have other info I'm just going with what happened with me. Good luck those Vossens they look wicked btw, prbly also my choice if I ever get tired of the ones I got.

I have Vossen CV2's in the 20x10.5 on the rear of my daily driver E55 as we speak. I had originally run a 285/25/20 when I first got them and when it was time for a new set the options were limited. I chose to go with a 285/30/20 since there were considerably more choices available. So far about 2k miles and no rubbing. It gets rid of the "stretched" look which I am not a fan of as well.
No fender rolling or anything, and I'm slammed on STAR.

Can you guys with the 10.5 rears post your offsets? My tire guys swears my offset and 285/30/18s will rub, even though people run that on 20s without rub. Thanks

A 285-30-20 is not the right size you guys should be running. 285-25-20 is the right tire size. Just put the stock size 265-35-18 and then the size you want to compare and the security code at the bottom to view.

Good to see they work! I can get the tip of a finger in gap I have now, looks like a sheet of paper would be hard to fit there(congrats on the fit) My main concern after rubbing was the lack of rim protection as there looks to be lil sidewall to keep curbs away from the rim.the ones orig on car when I was looking at it. Had nooo protection and were 'stretched' reeeeaal bad with the 11in(lol they went too wide in my opinion) wide rim holding the tiny 275\30 rubber.also found that they had rolled (a lil) the rear fenders to be on safe side. I usually go thru those tight drive thrus carefully, however the wife may not be quite so careful as she used to suv wheels that can ride on,near, and up over curbing with np.anyway, gotta go withwhat makes you happy!

Really,
there isn't much tire choice on this setup. Wouldn't there be more selection in a 295/25? I'm thinking that would be more appropriate on the 10.5 rear anyway...what brand tires are you guys using?

Great info in here. Recommended by us is the 285/25/20 on the 10.5. I see a few going wider and taller and still not rubbing? If not that's great

Exactly and the 285/25/20s work but I went with the 285/30/20 on my CV2's and not a single problem after a few thousand miles and way more choices for tire type/manufacturer/need.

as we have tried those specs for testing purposes
our conclusion is
285/25/20 is the proper fitment
as it keeps the vehicle level and the overall diameter within specs for front and rear

38 offset, 10.5 wide, lowered on links with no problems, no fender mods. I still have room to go wider. Will probably go with 295's when it comes time to replace my rears

Though some..
will tell you otherwise, 275/30/20 works just fine. I have used it on several e55's all lowered, with no issues. And i ihave a couple for sale in the classifieds if you need a couple....
