it wont be easy or cheap by any means. you can either swap out the steering column, or modify the metal shaft on the new wheel to fit into the w211 steering column. then you would need to figure out the switch board, and airbag connections so that 1. your airbag doesnt just blow up in your face, and 2 for your buttons to work. In many states if your horn does work you dont get a sticker.

no it is not cheap
no you dont need to swap the steering column.

I spoke with a company in germany that takes the new steering wheel and modifies the shaft, shaving it down so that it can fit the steering column on the w211 models.
they manufactured a switch board that allows all the buttons to function properly, buttons work, lights work, horn works
heres the catch. and i quote "because everything is hand made from the wheel to the chip the price is not pretty"
if you want all this done it will set you back 950 EURO (from what i can tell that 950 for just the board but i could be wrong)

So if you decide to go that route they can build it for you if you want to do it yourself you can buy the chip from them but it will be pricey

if you dont want to spend about 2 grand for all that I would just go to revotech and get a carbon wheel made with upgraded paddled from 2014+ that will set you back a little over a grand, best part is you get your wheel in 2-3 weeks

hope this helps!
cheers

They can install it AND the E63 paddles in a stock wheel or a customized wheel for this application.

This module is also available in kit form (and includes paddle mounting hardware , installation templates, and instructions). This can be purchased from DCT motorsports as well or other retailers (or directly from me). Feel free to PM for additional information.

Reopening this old thread....
I had a look at the part numbers on my early 2004 E55, and compared it to a late 2005 E55. Both have this same harness part number A2114404509, my question therefore is, why should this harness have to be changed?

I have 2006 CLS55. My steering wheel has buttons, not paddle shifters. I'd like to replace my OEM steering wheel with DCTMS or something similar. I don't want to install steering wheels from later models. Just custom wheel or a wheel from CLK63 BS. I hope that everything is plug and play.

If you change to a wheel that allows you to use your current air bag you can be certain that it will all work fine (plug and play, etc). Your car is ALREADY paddle compatible; so you can plug paddles in (in place of the buttons) and they will work (plug and play : )

Cheers and stay safe!

This is my steering wheel, that I had custom made in Latvia by Ledermanz. They are one of the top producers of high end aftermarket steering wheels in Europe. And it even came with it's own airbag

I reached out to Alexsejs at Ledermanz Grigul Design in Europe, back in 2019 to custom make my wheel and the price, was $750 + $50 for DHL 2-Day expedited shipping with insurance.
Now my wheel came with it's own airbag, most of Ledermanz steering wheels do not come with its own airbag.

You can look up Ledermanz Grigul Design on Instagram, also he sells his steering wheels on eBay, so check out his handy work.

It definitely changes the whole dynamic of the vehicle. I get a lot of compliments not only for the steering wheel but the CF interior trim and BS instrument cluster.

A new steering wheel compliments any vehicle 👍🏽

Yeah, everything looks great!

Please tell if you have more high res pics of your car somewhere like Flickr etc?

I definitely want this wheel. I wouldn't change anything.

I wonder if CF interior is real CF or imitation? Please tell where did you get if from? I have 2006 CLS55 and I only see MP Design makes (or at least that interior kit is still on their website) CF interior for CLS W219.

Also I wonder if BS cluster is BS Style or real one? Does CF in cluster match the CF trim?

PS: I sent ledermanz a message via eBay few days ago but they didn't reply me yet...

I just sent DM to Grigul Design on Instagram. I wonder if there is another way to reach Alexsejs? Like Facebook or Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, Telegram?

I have his email address, but he told me to not give it out or post it anywhere. He said, that he has enough work on my hands, without everyone contacting him thru email. I would try contacting him thru ebay

I don't post to Flickr, but I do have more photos. My CF Interior trim is legit, it was made by Matthew Johnson at OCarbon in Tempe AZ. www.ocarbon.com
My BS Instrument Cluster isn't from a CLK BS. But it is an OEM part, that was modified with CF. It was made by Nic Wright, I also believe he has a Instagram account.
Besides, knowing AMG a genuine BS CF Instrument cluster would cost at least $1250 I paid $350 from Nic. If you look closely you will see that the weave pattern on the cluster, was laid down going to the left in the opposite direction, as the CF trim pieces.
But that is my only regret, but most people don't even notice that, but I do. And if you look closely at all the trim pieces they are all laid down in the same direction going to the right (every piece). That is also why it look two months to produce them. You can't rush perfection.

I was just browsing thru eBay, and came across this, for those that are interested. Black Series Style Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster from Nicholas Wright, yes the same person that made mine back in the day.

Thank you for these pics! It looks amazing!

I see what you mean about the direction of CF pattern. I think I'd ask Nic Wright to build me a new one and sell the existing one. Just to make setup even more perfect.

I just checked ocarbon and website and it seems they sold out all their Mercedes trim kits. Unfortunately they even didn't mention W219 on their website, only W211. I just sent them a message regarding building a CF trim kit for CLS. If they say no then I don't have any other options except MP-design.

PS: I hope to hear any reply from Alexsejs or someone from his company. I'll wait.

If nobody makes CF trim then I could also try to hydrodip it or wrap. But my priority is this steering wheel.

The thing with OCarbon, is that you send him your existing wood trim, then Matt strips the wood and refinish it with genuine carbon fiber. I was fortunate that Brian “Worth the Wait” gave me his old trim from his E55, and I sent it to Matt to be refinished.

So Matt doesn’t have stock pieces in his inventory. So you have two options, 1) Strip your existing trim out of your car and send it to Matt. 2) Acquire a set of trim pieces for your vehicle from a source (eBay) and send that it to be refinished. 3) Look for an existing set of cf trim pieces for your car, that someone has for sale, possibly eBay.

I was lucky that Brian had his car at the same shop that does the work on my car, and that we both are MBWorld members. And that he gratuitously offered me his trim, so I didn’t have to tear apart my car and wait two months to received my new CF trim.

As far as steering wheels go, there are tons for sale on eBay, but there not cheap if you didn’t want to wait. I know that there are other sources out there to make cf trim and steering wheels, you just have to do some research.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, sending my existing trim is not an option. I will look for a used one on eBay.

Yup I see various steering wheels on eBay sold by different sellers. I was thinking that if you are totally satisfied with your wheel then I don't want to gamble and order the same. I like its shape and materials. I'm not sure if I want CF steering wheel. Maybe I'll order it later... sometime later as a second steering wheel.

I certainly understand your position, as I was in the same boat until Brian thru me a bone 😁
I am completely satisfied with the quality and craftsmanship of Ledermanz. I was very skeptical of going with alcantara, but I learned that if you take precautions it is very durable material. The key is to keep your hands clean, so I carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer in the center console to clean my hands. My buddy Brian has a CF and Leather wrapped steering wheel, along with a beautifully crafted CF shift knob. I considered buying one, but the manufacturer ended up refunded my money after no progress after two months. What DCT Motorsports did is subcontract the work out to a company is Asia, and I got very impatient on waiting. But after looking at the issue closer, I decided that I had way to much CF anyway, and decided to just keep the leather and alcantara wrapped OEM shift knob, and I think I made the right decision. I will say this, not every steering wheel sold on eBay is of good quality. I’ve heard stories from buyers, that the stitching and glue starting to come apart, after a while. So buyer beware...🤔. Stick with a reputable seller, and look at the feedback and reviews before buying. I love the flat top and bottom steering wheels, and expressly love the alcantara wrapped airbag and the bodying the wheel, I considered having it wrapped in leather, but glad I didn’t.
