Nitto NT05 First Impressions and where to get them for a bargain.

I looked ALL over the net and spoke to almost every tire shop in the city. For the most part it came down to Continental Extreme Contact DW or the NT05's. The problem I ran into is that the 275/30/19 is rare and very pricy.

Anyhow, I found a shop in Rosemead CA that made me a deal on new NT05's I couldn't refuse. Everything, mount/balance/tax, OTD was $550. It seemed like a good deal considering all the "name brand" shops were well over $600.

It's a sticky tire no doubt. I still break lose in first, and I get a flash of that gold triangle in second but the difference is night and day from everything I've had prior. The fact that I camber out a bit probably doesn't help but on first impression I highly recommend this tire especially for you torquey guys out there. Rolling pulls are noticeably stronger and smoother. Also, it looks bad ***.

If you need details on location for purchase, PM me.

I put those on my s65 a few years ago and you are right they stick like glue. I had the hardest time getting them to balance, though...they didn't seem very round. Also noisy as hell and only lasted like 5k tops. I am curious how you like them long term. Maybe they have worked out some of the bugs in manufacturing, or maybe I just had a bum two sets- or maybe this beast is just too heavy for them. They did help me control the 840 ft/lbs on launch though!

.
I'll be curious to hear how you do on tread life.

Nitto NT05 is only rated at tread wear 200.
Michelin PSS is rated at 300.... I went through them pretty quick (two summers) which was a little annoying.

That said, tires that can actually put the torque to the ground are worth checking out.

I have been through two sets and not real happy with them. They wear real fast, get noisy after a while and like zax63 said, can be hard to road balance. They look so cool, so I keep going back for more and they do stick. I been using nitto 555`s for my daily drivers and using the nt05 for Texas mile and or other roll racing . When I need real traction, then the drag pack and drag radials go on.

I had them too. Only lasted one summer. They had decent grip but nothing mind blowing. My v12's seem like they grip better straight line. Also for some reason they would make my garage smell like a stale fart. The rubber had a odd strong odor

NT05s are very sticky. I use Invo's up front and NT05s out back.

NT05 tread depth starts at 7/32 not 10/32. So they do wear fast. I didn't notice any noise since my car is loud as hell. But never had a problem hooking up in Mexico.

I personally love my Michelin super sports, best tire I've ever had. I'm thinking about toyo r888 next or the Michelin super cups. Not to thread jack but anyone have experience with those tires?

If you want to get crazy, Toyo offers a Proxes competition tire that is DOT approved. The Proxes 1 is hard to beat. I believe Nitto is either owned by Toyo or is a division of Toyo.

I had those on my blown GTO. They hook pretty good at the track. I always put them on at home and drove them 120 miles to the track. They are a soft walled tire. Good for drag racing , not good for corners. Just get some good sticky street tires for the street. Dunlop Star spec F1s were really good on that car.

Right now I have Hankook V12s and they are pretty good. That being said I can spin them pretty easily even with stock power on 285mm rears

I hve the extreme contact dw's 285 rear and I absolutely love them. My cousin also bought them for his e60 m5 and he also has loved as well. They grip very well and handle incredibly. I was very impressed with them. Next time give them a try

I have a set of those on drag wheels, they hook pretty well but MT's hook better. I do drive on the street with them sometimes, and it is a big difference in hook on the street. Oh, and I forgot about the stale fart smell mentioned above...my whole family noticed that for like a month after purchase of the NT05's. Not as bad as the Canadian underbody spray I put on my truck made of lamb oil or some such crap...then it smelled like someone died in my garage.
