Like i said earlier, a guy in Germany said its the chain-tensioner(s) from the Oil-pump.
He said he saw engines where people have ignored the ticking sounds and the oilpump-chain actually cut itself into the surrounding areas, that much of a chain slap have happened over time.
So i dont know... i think i will wait up until it gets louder and then i will check it further.

I have the same ticking/chain rolling sound in the lower driver's side on my 05' as well. The friend I got the car from told me it did it when he purchased it as well, and that it's just "how it is". I've had a chain tensioner fail before and it's NOT fun, so if I can do anything to prevent it, I'd like to, especially with 70K on this beast.

My 03 that just hit 57K miles has the same ticking by the drivers front corner of the engine. I've looked around a bit at it at as well and could never locate it. At first it sounded like a bad plug arcing to metal somewhere but after looking around in the dark I couldn't find anything. I get it after a cold start and a few seconds of idling. Not there immediately, but starts making the tick after a couple seconds and then it may go away completely a few seconds later. After a bunch of poking around, and searching on here and finding many reports of weird lil engine noises I wrote it off as normal.

Yes if it happens its a few seconds after starting and usually goes away after a short while. I typically let the engine warm up a couple minutes before driving and look over/listen to things. This is a weekend /nice weather car for me. Not my every day car.

Not all whines and ticks are equal, but the sounds I hear in those videos are the same ones I had diagnosed by many MB master techs back in '09. Since buying the car in late '08, the noises have persisted but the engine to this date has been fantastic. I wasted money on these issues though, only to be told by each tech that the sounds are normal. I could only find two documented diagnoses, attached, but I had a 3rd and 4th indy shop tell me the same thing that the sounds are normal.

Keep in mind folks, that these are noisy engines and not quiet, especially at idle. I would think if the issue is serious (such as a belt tensioner), you'd notice it more while driving.
This is my second 06 E55 and they were both, equally, noisy and almost exactly like you guys describe.
Just some food for thought. Having said that, ensure it isn't something more serious.

Since i made that post, a number of people discovered the origin of that sound. It is indeed the oil-pumps chain-slap because of a bad designed tensioner.
I hope some of them will speak up here.
Here is just one of em that i remember recently:

yep normal, I think it is the oil pump chain, this engine is almost a dry sump, and has a large oil cooler and a larger and more complex oil pump than other M113s.
None of the NA M113 engines make that noise.

All videos sound completely normal to me. M113K are noisy engines… I wouldn't worry about it.
