Shifting characteristics

Just womdering if this is "normal"... At the track i noticed that when the car shifts from 1-2 and 2-3, there is a small delay in acceleration, almost like it was a clutch car and i was granny shifting. Is this normal?

This place is a joke.
The throttle body partially closes between shifts, so yes, it's a normal feeling for these cars. I bet we are losing a couple tenths in the 1/4 because of this, but it's probably engineered to extend the life of the transmission.

Completely normal. On the plus side, you could drink a cup of joe while running down the 1320 and never spill a drop.

Can this be "tuned" out?

Just my opinion, but when doing pulls, I put the car in M mode and let it shift by default (ie. I don't use the buttons or the shifter). The torque reductions seem less severe, and the shifts seem faster and better placed throughout the rpm range as opposed to S mode.... I do have the EC tcu tune though..

In M mode it will automatically up shift? It doesn't just bounce the limiter? I have tcu tune also, might have to try and see what happens. Whenever I use M mode I shift earlier than the car does on its own with the tcu tune, so never had it shift for me if that is what really happens.

And yes mine is the same way with the delay, it sucks. Honestly it is kind of crazy but I feel like it got more pronounced after I got the tcu tune than before.

I went from having stock, to a modded valve body, then the tcu tune on top of the modded valve body and feel that after the tune it is like the engine shuts off then rips again during shifts (the throttle body closing type deal).

I have watched my shifting video several times listening to the shifts from stock to modded VB and then tcu trying to compare. Not the greatest but I made this a while back.

Yep, it up shifts by default if you don't hit the button... Like I said, much quicker shift, and less torque reduction... That's how I've always run my rs6, first thing i tried on the 55 when I got it..

I recall other '03 owners reporting the same experience with the trans automatically up shifting near redline even while in manual mode.

OP, here is the closest anyone has come to a shift kit for our trans. Shifter has been working on this and this is his video.

I tried the M mode thing today and it bounced the rev limiter in 1st (did not shift to 2nd on its own) and also tried it in 2nd and it bounced the limiter again (did not shift to 3rd on its own). So it definitely doesn't work in my car. Mine is a 2005.

I have an 04 and mine shifts on it's own as well in "M" mode. I feel like though that "S" mode has faster shifts maybe there is indeed torque reduction in "S" mode

lowprofile: That certainly shifts firmer, but there is still that dreaded "delay". Any other info on that shift kit, availablitly, price, etc? I understand you can get different solenoids to increase line pressure...?

The delay really isn't that bad in the video when he had it in M mode and he was shifting himself. I'm interested in this kit as well.

IIRC thats because of the TCU tune. I heard it won't upshift with a tuned TCU anymore which is actually good, IF it would shift way quicker in M mode actually.
