Jacking one side at a time

Getting ready to paint the brake calipers. Looks like the only way I'll make the pot life / dry time is to do both calipers on each side at the same time.

Any suggestions as to a safe way to do this? Jackstands?

Thanks in advance

Jackstands are a must. I wouldn't rely on the factory jack either if you plan on doing this on your smooth garage floor. My E55 dropped on the rear hub when the jack slid out from under the car. Yes, the e-brake was on tight.

dd_kota, tjcMBE55AMG has the previous E55 and the AMG logo is not prominent like the W211 E55. The rear brake does not have any logo on W210.

tjcMBE55AMG, use 4 jack stands all around. Setup and cleaning is the most difficult part. Are you using the 2 part paint type with hardener? If so, the paint will be unusable/unpaintable after 6 hours. Here is mine:

Jacking

Kev - Same car, (same color???). I'm going to do the calipers red. Figure I'd have time to do one side at a time. I don't like the idea of 4 jack stands though. Isn't that a little risky?

If I do use 4 jack stands, what are the acceptable support points?

TJC

PS - Am I stupid or does your axle look lower to the ground than it would with a wheel on?

4 jack stands are the safest way to go. Only using a jack is dangerous.

At my local dealer they had a car on stands and they used the 4 round rubber pieces under the side sills, but that is the point I place my floor jack. There are few good chassis points to use jack stands you have to get up under there to see.

Axle height - optical illusion for you.

4 is better than 2 because you can get the car level but if you are careful, 2 can work well. The axle is lower to the ground when jacking the car from the frame. The suspension is in full extension.
