what ive learned in 5 years modding the beast(newbies welcome)
I just want to make a thread for new guys coming along that are dying to get more power out of there beasts and want to give them my personal opinions and results that I have and what I went threw to get the car just right.I've been there and done that and basically did all the hardworking and labor for you.
This is exactly what I would do to a stock car right now if I had the chance from all the things I learned building my car.
First thing if you read my posts from 4 years ago dissing a 180 pulley well guess what?I ****ing hate it again, its a volcano blowing hot inefficient air into your car.I don't give a crap anyway you slice it a 180 pulley is only good in 65d weather and after 85 out you are almost slower then stock at the 1/4 mile.
My car right now is back at the dealer getting a new torque converter because I fell into the numbers game ageing and melted the thing with all my torque and I have never had a TCU tune on my car, leave the TCU alone if you want your tc to last,a 180 pulley will wreck havok on your sc clutch and will jerk the car so hard you might actually do an endo when it engages or it sure as hell feels that way.
So that damn 180 in the long run cause a hell of a lot of grief and issues with heat and drivability.
82mm tb get ready for some fun!!!! If you are going to do this make sure its a tb that the blade opens and closes the same direction as stock.trust me driveability is night and day vs the Audi tb that opens opposite and when the car kills power with the tc system its not like you just choxkee the car out because the blade angle is opposite and you can feel a huge power jerk cut off with the Audi tb.
You need to also be prepaired to go threw hell with codes being thrown as some cars just are super sensitive to the tps % and even with zero leaks you might need to adjust idle speed with SDS.
If I were to do it all over again I would do a 168mm OEM crank pulley with no welds(throws off harmonic balance) a tune, kleemann or renntech and Kerman headers with the front carts cut out.this setup will get you right at 500whp and 550wrt and will be a blast to drive without worrying about heat soak or blowing up you torque converter or making you sc clutch engage like hell and make people think there is something wrong with your car.
I would not rec a tb,intake scoops or even a renntech air box as the gains are just not worth it.

Go ahead and install a 195 and trap 130
I'll be here waiting to tell you so when your tranny is ****ed from the torque

82mm TB is a must i love it and cant wait to have it retuned for it as well... i have no codes or check engines or idle issues at all, in fact the car is much much smoother now

I'm in favor of one but for a new owner I rec 168pulley k&n filter a tune and kleeman headers
Best bang for the buck and you won't have harsh blower engagement and not crazzy wear on the torque converter

My 195 has been great since I moved from a 180, then again I don't track it. I drive aggressive some but I enjoy just having the power to beat just about anything I run across. Still want to add the smaller SC pulley in top of my 195, but even with KC and meth will need a tank to assist with a that heat.
Still some good info here as certainly 180+ will create heat and you will lose power if you don't add lots of cooling. I can cruise in. 85* weather and have 60* IAT and top out around 115*. No way to just bolt a big pulley on and have tons of power. Oh and pin anything 180+.

If you wanna talk about torque, ask chawskin. I believe he's still on the stock tranny and he had more torque than you'll ever dream of.
Oh I only have 192 and trap 129mph. So I'm not quite there yet right?

I used liquid nitrogen on top of my blower when I trapped 130 lol
Pops my secret is out

And stick to OEM 82mm TBs from 550 series cars. They can be has used online for around $400 or so. And you can source the remaining few pieces without much effort or cost versus buying a "kit".

Thanks for sharing, I was on fence few days ago to either get a 180 pulley or just a s/c pulley since a huge difference in power gains but some members on here recommended me against it, so I got a S/C pulley instead and I'm happy with it.

It's all in way you drive. I daily my car with DR, ran faster than you ever had at the track, have more miles than you.

I have plenty of dynos with over 600rwt and I don't know why you are getting defensive with me.I could give a **** if you ran faster then me at the track.I have no traction at Ned and there prep sucks and I trapped 130 with only the stuff in the trunk taken out, still on original OEM battery back there also.

Oh wait, you're going to sell your car now too.

Bottom line is if you don't want to break anything then don't mod at all. It don't matter if you have a 168 or 180, you still have a chance to break something. And you'd better be able to handle yourself when it breaks. Because it will!

So true. Pay to play to mod and when it breaks to repair.

My problem is you act like you know everything but in fact you're clueless. People had been running big pulley, 190+, since the day these car come out and just because you can't figure out we now have to listen to you.

Maybe if you take a look at the stock compressor map and see how far out of its efficiency range it iswith a 190+ pulley you would understand.
Who the **** do you think told bruce on the phone what we can do to fix the tb codes? I have countless messages of me going back and forth back in the day with Greg at ec when I was trying to get them to work right
Your nothing but a hater.

Everybody clam down. skratch and forrest both of you are respected member on this forum
What is the preferred set up according to the OP may suit his driving style and others who have the similar.
Some people may just want some down low torque and dont care about top end and hence they get a bigger pulley.
Basically mod your car as you see fit as per you driving style and budget.

I would do a 168 or your supercharger pulley and the basic tune and header package

Sorry Angelo! It's just a crummy day here, it's slow day at work, and this monkey didn't have his banana yet. You know i got nothing but love for ya. As far as being hater, I'm guilty of that. I hate anyone selling the E55 because IMHO it's the best car out there.
Hey Angelo, what changes did you do to get the 602/593whp? Also, do you have the dyno graph for that? Thanks man. I'm going home to work on my pile.

My last attempt for 10s were a 195 pulley,78 grinded tb and the rest of my usual setup.I was having tranny issue and a few times the car spun and bounced off the rev limiter going to 3rd gear.this was on a stock TCU tune and if I had a TCU tune I would of blown the torque converter earlier but I was surprised it lasted this long.
I am back to a 180 now but installed an 82mm tb and will soon drop it down to a 168 or sharduls pulley kit.
I don't want to risk blowing the tranny up and to tell you the truth that video the other day with that stock 55 would smoke me off the line.there is just no grip at all in first and most of second depending on road surface and temps.I ran my car for 2 years going threw drag radials every 3 months and got sick of that also.
Car is at the shop now with the torque converter coming out and its had a flush of fresh oil ever 12k the master tech said its slipping bad from the torque it went threw and the TCU is at max values of torque management to save it.
