GT-R is a bit out of the budget he mentioned... if you don't care about cargo space, I'd say the Z06 is the most fun car to get in that price range... you can easily find them for low 40s.

SMG is faster than the manuals and you can drive them just as hard...I'd MUCH prefer an SMG over the manual in that platform.
To be honest, the E60 M5 SMG is one of my favorite transmissions on the market nowadays.
Having said all that, you won't be happy with the lack of torque compared to the E55. You have to wind the hell out of that V10. Also, the gas mileage is WORSE in the M5. I think I averaged 12-13mpg and that was mostly granny driving - not joking.
