Chiller Killer vs. Meth
OK , did some data-logging and my IATS went through the roof. Jerry's jaw probably dropped when he opened my log. 223! on a 2nd back to back run with a short cool time between; 3rd gear pull on a dry 95+ day. Of course timing was pulled back to 10. YES, I know they are high, so please no ,"your IATs are high" comments.
Pump is good. Front H/E. So, thinking of using the 2 gallon secondary engine tank (dad's) as my Meth reservoir as pic'd below. Run two nozzles of course. Also considering a Killer Chiller setup. Not a fan of rear tanks.
Just tossing this out there for some input from 'veterans' in case I might be missing something. Perhaps even run both.

I have both and say KC first for daily driving and the meth works great for those higher speed runs. I can peak close to 100 on meth. I do still feel I need more capacity for the KC to help recovery be better as I don't have anything more than the BMW resv.

I don't think the killer chiller is worth it, but that's me. I would say engine bay tank and meth. I run all day long in 100 degree heat and never had any problems on back to back highway pulls.

I am confused as you have logged before with this setup and not seen anything close to this high. What has changed ? I have a much smaller reservoir and am not seeing anything close to 223*, but you are running a 200mm pulley vs. my 175mm so that will naturally increase the IATs.

Methanol will be corrosive to the aluminum coating, but I have no idea how long it would take before it was a problem. The corrosive problem becomes worse with heat. I use a plastic tank in the Evo (but it uses a 50% water mix).

Use your windshield washer tank as your meth tank brotha. Thats what I do, and it holds alot of fluid, I think it is at least 2 gallons. Definitely use two nozzles, one in the inlet which is pre blower, and one post intercooler. As far as the killer chiller goes, if you can swing it get both. The Lightning and Cobra guys have been using it for a long long time already and it pays dividends. With it activated, you can be cruising around with iats around 30* below ambient it should cut off and the meth will take over. The best of both worlds imo.

you can tune for meth and get cooling and power as a result. k/c simply cools until wot.
dont use the tank meth is corrosive and you want a tall tank vs a wide tank to eliminate any kind of surge should the fluid run low. adding a small surge tank under the main tank is best.
dont mess with the cheaper units. tuning for meth can be deadly to a motor if not done right. use a howerton engineering kit and dont skimp on the cost. its the best there is hands down
run pure v1 meth and distilled water at a 60/40 or 70 /30 mix.

You can use your windshield washer reservoir and -20 washer fluid. You'll even get a handy low fluid light that way. You can also just use water if all you want to do is cool.

Thanks for the responses everyone; good advice.
Anyone have a lead on a decent setup w/o tank?

I was reading the same on the Lightning forum earlier also. Also saw your post on the AEM forum. Thinking do the meth first, iron out the kinks because there are always kinks, then go CK after for street driving. I stocked up on freon while in Vegas. California now charges a $10 a can core for freon.

I asked the question a few months ago most said Aquamist, after that you have AEM, Snow Performance & DevilsOwn.
I decided not to tune for it so just to use for cooling so went with AEM, will get around to fitting it eventually!

On a daily driven car without a huge pulley, isn't an upgraded pump (e.g. Bosch 010) and an HE from Eurocharged/FTP etc., sufficient? Maybe add the -10C Star mod as well...?
When I had the EC HE, Johnson CM30, and the -10C star mod on my previous 06, my temps were fine the entire time I owned the vehicle.
Maybe I didn't drive the car hard enough

Ive had Meth on both my previous car, And it was the 1 thing that kept my Timing up and car cool, My aftermarket Front mounts bla bla.. nothing could compare to it. I ran a 50% Meth with 50% -2- Windshield washer fluid, out of the Windshield tank, Just tapped it with dual nozzles - I would do Back to Back runs on hot days and the car would LOVE IT...

I use M1 methanol 50% and distiller water 50%. It only sprays after 11psi. And there is no tune. It's only for cooling. A simple AEM kit with dual nozzles. I gained 72whp after 6000rpms.

Believe it, Jerry said I'm down about 55hp at the top. Car does run fine, pulls hard, but the timing is getting pulled up top. During the cooler winter months things were fine, but now that we are approaching triple digits-

Yes, true, that test was without the new additional Dad's tank installed.

I'd like to point out that the KC doesn't only work until you go WOT. It's true that it stops cooling the water at WOT, but the whole point is to have a tank where the water is already kept very cold. You're not going to heat up the entire tank worth of water before you're done with one pull.
