03E55AMG,

Let us know when you have some time slips from the drag strip. I'd be interested to see that kind of performance from the E55 and I'd love to be able to talk smack to the 911 TT and Viper guys about the E55's.

No problem, I went to the track about 2 months ago, the track wasn't prepped well at all. That day the temperature was around 97 degrees with 100% of humidity. I ran with the trac on 12.7@113 with full tank of pump gas. I know I can get better times but I was amazed with the MPH due to the intensive heat and humidity. Ill keep you posted with some 100 octane eventually. It needs some drag radials for sure..

PS: Also, I have a 02 996 TT in the family and we did tested both cars, it was a pretty even race til about 120mph...then I walked away VERY slowly. It was a fun race though. That was about 2-3 months ago as well...

02 996 TT vs. 03 E55 (both stock) and the E55 pulled a little at 120

Did you go from a roll? If so what speed did you start .... I am just kinda shocked that you pulled on the 996, but its not totally unbelievable

I would have thought the 996 would have the advantage on the top end... WOW

Any chance you got this race on video... (I'll settle for pics of the cars together though)

I figured the new E55 would take a stock 911 TT from a roll but definitely not from the start. The E55 has more horsepower than the 911 TT but does not have nearly the same traction off the line. The E55 would accelerate better on the top end until it bounced off the limiter and the 911 would blow by it rather quickly. Uh, that is, assuming the limiter hasn't been removed on the E55.

Well, I wanted on video but there was no video at the time of the test, however we all know that the E55 have a speed limiter of 155mph. But with a chip that wouldnt be a question.

And that is also considering that you have a good driver behind the wheel of the 996 TT, if you don't know how to launch it will wheel hop REAL REAL BAD, and you can end up breaking something.

It's not only just dumping the clutch like most people do without knowing the consecuences of burning the clutch or breaking something else.

03E55AMG,

I think the new E55 could and would beat most Viper and 911 TT owners in a stoplight race due to the difficulty to launch those cars to get the high 11's to very low 12's that are reported by the automotive press. However, if they are good drivers, they will win the stoplight drag race. The new E55 is a most impressive car. I just wish they put the new twin-turbo V12 in the 211 body - wow would that be a monster!

BlownV8,

I agree with you, I am a TURBO guy all the way...and I know you can get more out of Turbos than Superchargers, True from a stop light I completely agree you can burn most of those cars. From a roll its different ball game, Vipers trap pretty high MPH and considering that they are a LOT lighter than the E55 they perhaps would walk away from a roll. But like you stated, the E55 is one of its own...a 4 door that NO ONE expects to be that fast....
