-/////SLS AMG MHP Style\\\\\\-
While I was up at Timmayfest I ran into Andy from MHP and got tossed the keys to his SLS AMG. I saw it there last year, and asked if there was anything different about it I should be aware of. He said go drive it, and I will tell you when you get back after you beat the snot out of it
So thats what I did
We put it in Sport mode, and disabled the traction control, game on. For a N/A motor which to me obviously had a tcu tune, ecu tune and some exhaust work done was incredibly fast.
The tranny was buttery smooth when in stop and go traffic with no hard upshifts or down shifts. However, once you got on it, it seemed to adapt to your driving style and the upshifts were fast, precise and the rpms barely dropped. The throttle blips on downshifts were intoxicating, and now it was time to give this girl some room to breath.
I turned onto interstate 71, and saw a nice long on ramp, so I went WOT through 2 gears and it almost felt like the care had torque steer it was so numble on its feet. I would say compared to my modded E55, it definitely pulled harder up top, way harder. The ECU tune that was in it, again was right on during stop and go traffic, but once you mashed the pedal, it almost took on another personality. No surges, drove and idled like stock but had massive mid range and top end. I think the only way I could have run with that beast was from a dig.
Now onto my favourite part, the exhaust Waiting to get on the freeway stuck in mall traffic, it sounded slightly louder than stock, nothing obnoxious and no drone. Once I got into the throttle, the note definitely changed, and going WOT I would say that it is louder than any E55 I have heard besides Prada, RBJ and my open headers. The thing screamed but what was nice, is that you could easily learn to drive it quiet or close to open mide pipe loud when you wanted
After I got back, I chatted with Andy over a brew, and he said these were the specs on the exhaust:
2”-2 1/8” stepped & equal length LTs, mated to a 3” X pipe and 3” resonators back to the factory muffler and tips.
The ECU had 180F thermostat along with BMC drop-in filters, aka their S2 package. Dyno numbers were 571rwhp/491rwtq SAE, 93 octane, DJ, 1:1 5th gear.
I managed to get some pics of the master piece:

I believe the mhp sls would walk away from me on the top end. Above 6k, my cars hp curve starts to drop where his curve keeps pulling to redline.
In a full on drag race where I can load my converter, and let my tq do some work, it would be a battle. They both deliver power so differently, but that tranny is light years ahead of our slush box. It shifts so damn fast, and the throttle blips are nasty.

Yeah I am the fat (at least that is what the wifey says) bald dude that walked up to Jake when he was standing in front of the tent talking to Stas from IPS... I was with my wife, Paul (the E55 TT guy) and his wife. I went over & checked out your ride & was thinking man that car looks familiar... NICE RIDE

Ahhhhh, I think I remember you. At least, that's what I think, I think.
Most people remember my wife, and I'm just remembered as the dude with her. I don't think she moved 1 inch from underneath that tent, except for when we grabbed a bite at Quaker Steak....
Thanks for the compliment... I've been following your build thread. Nasty...
There's a car in there somewhere, I promise.
