E63 w211 Oil change- how many quarts?
Hi guys, I just wanted to confirm the number of quarts for the oil change.
After searching, few of the DIY is using the pump.
I am draining the oil from the bottom of the oil pan.
How many quarts do we need for the e63 oil change? Is it 9 full quarts or 8 1/2?

@gtr886, draining of just the pan 8.5 quarts should be close, If you also drain the front oil cooler, 9.5 quarts is okay. Always start engine after oil change to ensure no leakage then recheck using the dip stick after sitting for a while.
Good Luck
Mobil 0-40w synthetic only and use the OEM filter.
A small over fill showing on the stick is fairly normal as the filter drains down after shutting the car off.
Also, replace the copper washers on both plugs,, easy on tightening the oil cooler plug as it is thin on the threads.

I drained the oil, waited 10 mins, then filled it up with 7.5 quartz. Drove the car, checked the level after sitting for a while, and it was just on the max mark. Last time I put 8 and it was over max mark

The owners manual states 9.3 quarts, but that's a dry engine. Remember that the oil cooler holds roughly a quart by itself. I always put in 9.5 quarts, and I'm always at the higher end of the dipstick marks.

It's possible that your car has a higher oil consumption than my car, that would explain the 7.5 quarts.

I open both the oil filter housing and engine oil filler cap, to create positive air flow so that the oil drains faster. And I let the oil drain from both the pan to oil cooler from about 20 mins, to get out as much oil as possible.

But couldn’t understand how oil consumption and 7.5 quarts relate? I would say if it consumed oil, then more oil would go in, wouldn’t it?

Also you have an additional oil cooler when the oil gets extremely hot, you can hear the fan on the cooler running.
