Fronts, I assume...? I'm gonna say the R1's are pretty close, maybe even heavier. They appear very well made--the castings look solid, not porous and the machining looks very good. Oh, and the hat is painted black. I feel my option is valid, I was in New car service and parts for about 25 years....I've seen my share of brake rotors and kinda developed a niche for spotting quality (and junk) castings.

The question is, for people who have never dragged their cars or ever will , are we going to notice the weight savings at all ? or this is just in our minds?

A good example is to push a full wheelbarrow and then push it with 10 less pounds on it. It's less effort to get the lighter one moving...
I did this on my prior Mazda 6 and dropped about 12lbs per corner - the car felt like it gained 50hp and handling improved even more :-)

Akebono pads are good, not good as OEM. I think we all can agree OEM pads create LOTS AND LOTS of dust.
Amazon ones were correct but they sent me these first and need to return wrong ones back tomorrow.

For a given style of rotor (eg 1 pc) I would be concerned how a one rotor would be 4 lbs lighter than OEM. Remember that MB, Porsche, and other OEMs take brakes very seriously and spec out the components to ensure they hold up to the task at hand. My guess is the less expensive and lighter rotors use a cheaper metal and may not hold up as well. The cost for the 1pc MB rotors is about the same as the aftermarket and I would highly recommend sticking with the MBs.
Now, if you can, upgrade to an e63 or racing brake setup and get the weight savings the proper way

I'm talking about the Premium series.
http://www.r1concepts.com/p-168413-p...ke-rotors.aspx
but 2.3 times the price - if the OEM is indeed at 100 a pop.
Zimmerman doesn't have considerable weight savings to make a switch but this one provided ~4 LBS per corner.
So is it worth it ? Well, I don't think we have a true review anywhere on the forum. Either people went with OEM or the really expensive options. No middle ground here

If going OEM or similar, try FCPEuro.com
I've purchased OEM and OE parts from them. Lifetime warranty and great prices. Free shipping:
Here's some brake rotor options from them, including OEM:
http://www.fcpeuro.com/Mercedes~Benz...06&m=20&e=1087
They offer genuine MB, Myele, OP Parts, and Balo. I can't comment on the quality of the 3 non-MB brands, but FCPEuro has a pretty solid warranty. Personally, I'd go genuine. The prices for the fronts are great, but for the rears...
Here's another shop (RMEuropean) selling the rears (used to order parts for my BMW; although I bet FCPEuro would easily price match; Free shipping; no lifetime warranty with RMEuropean however):
Genuine MB

Former Vendor of MBWorld
RacingBrake light weight two piece rotors:
Front: 24 lbs vs. OE 36 lbs - Save 12 lbs per rotor.
Rear: 15.5 lbs vs. OE 21.5 lbs - Save 8 lbs per rotor
Total weight saving per car: 40 lbs (35%).
Aside from weight saving and its advantage, RacingBrake two piece rotors are built with the best metallurgy, and can last 3/4 times longer than OE and other aftermarket one piece rotors, also save you gas bills so over the time of your ownership RB two piece rotors would cost less.
A review from ML62 owner installing RB two piece rotors provides factual data in fuel economy resulting from the rotor weight reduction.

Slightly OT.....
This looks like a great option and I'm getting close on my fronts. But my real question is: has anyone found anything (rotor, pad, SS lines, etc) that improve the pedal feel on the SBC brakes? I do wish I didn't have to apply so much pedal pressure, and a little more "grab" at pedal onset....thoughts anyone, or another thread to point me to? Thanks...
