Airmatic Suspension Questions (E55 AMG, CLS55 AMG)
I have had people tell me the car should dump air when you park the car and cut it off and I have had others tell me the car should hold the height level regardless of what height (sport 1/2, raised mode, comfort mode) you have it set at when you park and cut it off. I am just wondering which is it? I have a friend with a CLS 55 AMG and he insists the car should dump air to release pressure/stress on the airbags when its parked and turned off. My car doesn't always dump air when I exit but I do notice his does. He thinks something is wrong with my suspension. He says my ride should be smoother than what it is (sometimes my car shimmies and I had the front bushings replaced last month). Is something wrong with my car or his car? How do you know when something is wrong with your suspension?

1970gsx: Have you done any upgrades, repairs, or mods to your car? How long have you had it? I have an '05 E55 AMG (also black) w/ E55 chrome AMG rims. I have 67,000 miles.

This will be the second time I have answered your question, tell me what do you not understand?
When they dump air, it is because you have a leak.
Don't you have the owners manual?
Here is the first answer I gave you, please take the time to click on this and click on both links in my post and actually read up on how the AirMatic works.

Yacht Master: I am just wanting to make sure and get a few more opinions (I am a new Mercedes owner). The good thing is that only one person has told me it is supposed to dump air. Everyone else tells me the same thing. The guy who owns the CLS55 AMG (the one who said it is supposed to dump air) told me there is no reason for the air bags to hold air when the car is parked and off. Everyone else has told me the same thing you told me.

Bcurtis, it is not an "opinion" it is a fact, Mercedes/AMG cars equipped with AirMatic do not deflate / dump when you turn the car off.
If it dose, it has a leak, if the leak is not repaired, the compressor and relay will fail prematurely.
I would advise you not to listen to the CLS55 owner, and spend more time here with the search button, before starting multiple threads asking the same question.

I read through the pdfs but still dont quite understand the differences between the airmatic on the e500 and e55.
As an owner of both, i can tell the e55 on comfort is about equal to the e500 on sport II. So, other than the valving, what is the major difference between the two systems?
Also, the e500 definitely purges air when parking the car in comfort mode and it drops about a 1/2" all the way around. It has done this since the day i got it and has never sagged or sat too low. So, i must assume this is normal operation on the 500.
I just got the e55 and am not yet familiar with it though.

Quote from the handbook...
"If you have selected the Comfort suspension tuning (page238), the vehicle lowers slightly when you lock it within approximately 60seconds after switching off the engine. When parking, make sure that your vehicle cannot come into contact with other objects, such as a curb, while lowering. Your vehicle could otherwise be damaged."
...exactly what my CLS55 does.

Guys: Is the compressor expensive to replace (to add air to the suspension)? I am just trying to get my car running up to par. I just bought it and have already changed the front bushings, an the fuel pumps. Hopefully my suspension is ok and I won't have to fix it.
