55k engine - need help with supercharger drain screw!!!

Was changing the supercharger oil yesterday and dont even ask how the mechanic managed it, but despite all the tissues under there he still managed to drop the little screw into the bowels on the engine bay.

Does anyone know if a replacement fill screw is available and what part number i should be asking for?

Or is there an alternative coz the cars been stranded since last night.

Thanks.

This is the bit i was dreading, i dont really want to go to this kind of extreme for something the size of a dime.

You wouldnt happen to remember what size the replacement was would you?

your best bet is if you dont want to take the S/C out which i dont blame you, is go on the sale threads see who already has them pulled out and is selling them and ask them to simply unscrew the bolt and measure it.. there is plenty of superchargers for sale out there, hell even on ebay i would email the seller and ask to see if he can do a quick favor, thus saving you all that headache

dont remember, it is metric

maybe use a bolt from the engine bay to see if the thread matches.

You could go to Home Depot and buy M6, M8, M10 and M12.......ect..... metric bolts and see which one fits, then cut to size put a slit in the top so screw driver will fit in and hope for the best....

M6 = way too small
M8 =- nearly touches the sides but wont catch
M10 = Too big

Ok, how hard is it to take the actual supercharger off the engine?

Any special tools needed?

As a matter of fact my guess is that the screw may have actually ended up underneath the supercharger by now anyway.

I have my SC off the car, let me get a thread gauge and check it for you tonight. It has to metric, as the SC is made in Japan. It may be off size , like M7.

Thanking you VERY much for this esquire.

But it wont be an M7, iv tried that already, lol.

An M8 just seems to miss the threads and an M10 is a little too big.

Its definitely something odd sized, like an M9 quite possibly?

It measures to be a 3/8" allenscrew and hard to say what thread pitch but on my gauge 20 looks about right.

Nutty..

I was thinking that the DIY thread suggested a sheet/towel or something to keep it nearby in case this happened....

It does, and i did.

But unfortunately all the tissue was directly underneath the hole where the screw goes in as thats where your likely to drop it.

In this case though, as the mechanic was pulling the screw back out it actually hit the back of the supercharger pulley and came off the allen key. In reality no one saw it coming off at a point this far out so no one put any tissues under there. Also, if you use magnetic tools you wont have this problem, in this case they are worth the extra bit of money.

YOU SIR, are an absolute SUPERSTAR

Now im gona try and find one of this dimension or see if a local engineering firm can make one to this size. Thread size will be a trial an error i guess.

Get one of these and go fishing.

Take the bottom tray off and it might be sitting there.

You're supposed to place a towel and then a magnet right under the blower in case the screw falls the magnet will catch it, that's how I did it.
