General Tune up questions
Hey guys, I'm looking at having my plugs and wires changed out and all that fun stuff.
What are your preferred brands on plugs and wires?
I did call my dealership and see what they wanted around 1600 out the door. I'm thinking I can easily beat that by having my local mechanic do it. (If he can)
But in a nut shell they wanted 23$ a plug and 900ish for wires for "certified Mercedes parts". I know these cars aren't cheap to maintain but I'm thinking after market is the way to go.
Whats your guys 2 cents?

plugs are < $10/ea generally and you can get wires for WAY cheaper than $900

Dealer here wanted $1400 for plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets and labor. I bought all the parts online for less than $250 and did it myself on a Saturday (first time working on the e55 myself). Gotta love saving over $1k.

How was taking the plugs out? Was it fairly painless? Nicely done too!

It was a lot easier getting them out then I thought they would be. Heard a lot of stories of plugs being seized or stuck, but mine came out without a problem. After 90k miles, they definitely needed to be changed. There's a DIY for changing them and I just took my time and followed it, very straight forward.
