E55 Shifter

My shift assembly took a crap. I have talked to a MBZ specialist near me and they said that its a "theft device" and can only be programmed once or something along those lines. I understood it as

1. Once from the factory
2. once when it is removed from the original vehicle.

Any advice?

It needs to be coded by a dealer to remove the transport protection due to it being a theft relivent part. The new one that is.

Have you had any luck with used ones? Do I need to purchase the entire "theft" kit from another E55?

Honestly plug and play, didnt get any codes or warnings on the dash. This is temporary to just start the car. I dont even think the shifter plays into the security system like the W220. I ordered another shifter and its on its way.
