Chawkins vs. Audi RS5
Had a long drive up from Mexico this weekend on my way up to caffeine and octane. My bro Jason was in his Blown M5 making 680rwhp through a YSI Voretch and you all know my combo.
I was minding my own business sipping on my morning coffee and knocking my sound system when this sick RS5 comes by us pretty fast. There was traffic ahead so all three of us slowed until we get around it.
I quickly opened up my cutouts and geared down to 3rd gear from 5th around 60mph. All sorts of rasp, popping followed as you would expect from open headers on a down shift We were three wide when all hell broke loose The RS5 got the hit and surprisingly held its own momentarily. Something felt a little loose and there it was out the corner of my eye, the little yellow triangle blinking like it was christmas time in August.
My tires finally hooked and when they did it got ugly. I would say in my 3rd gear pull alone, we put 5+ cars on the RS5. Jason and I were still door to door with him starting to creep on me until we shut it down halfway through 4th.
Nice clean run with the sun rising, 3 wide, all german monsters in there own right. I will say that car looked sexy as hell

AWD 450 hp means probably 350 at the crank---- of course you should crush him. I just test drove one (RS5) and it was not amazing nor was it underwhelming. I actually expected more out of the steering but there was a lot of understeer at 80+ speeds into turns. The car sure does look good and is very linear in its acceleration.

Audis are always beautiful cars but always leave more to be desired in the powerplant. The RS5 is certainly one sick looking ride, especially with a lowered stance and some aftermarket wheels. They should have put a turbo engine in that car.

The RS5 was never intended to be a straight line terror or a track day special. I think it's an absolutely fantastic daily driver with just the right amount of luxury, technology, sport and style. You really need to spend some seat time in the car to appreciate what Audi has done.
If you see this in your rearview mirror at dusk, do not fear.......... it's only me and I'm not dumb enough to run an E55.

Talk about a major style points win. Aston and Audi have really come into their own. They've stayed true to their longstanding styling cues while still making the cars more beautiful. I wish Mercedes would have done more the same. I haven't seen a good two door from Mercedes since the R230. The new SL looks bug eyed.
Nice run Craig.

Yeah, I agree Audi should have put their biturbo 4.0 in this car. It seems as if the engineers were aiming to match the E92 M3 and C63 performance instead of exceeding it. With that being said I still think the 4.2 is a heck of naturally aspirated engine and it sounds fantastic especially with an aftermarket exhaust.
Your about right. Tuners are getting about that stock. One company list 352awhp and 282awtq stock.

The RS5 is beautiful car, but it's naturally aspirated engine comes alive at the upper rpm range like the old BMW V10's or 991's ... not to mention all that driveline loss and weight. Even though I love my M5 with all it's torque, the sound a high revving naturally aspirated engine produces is something else ... and when kept in the power band, a lot of fun to drive as well!

S8 - 520hp/481tq AWD
S63 - 536hp/590tq AWD (577hp/664tq w/performance pkg)
B7 - 540hp / 538tq AWD (only included because BMW doesn't make an M7)
Obviously the S8's 11.9 @ 118 bests the B7's 12.2 @ 115, but the new S63 hasn't been tested yet that I've seen. I'm willing to bet it will trounce them both, though.
----------------
On a separate note, this is what I see in terms of matching the large sedans between the German Big 3.
A8 3.0T = S350 = 740i
S400 has no competition
A8 4.0T = S550 = 750i
A8L W12 = S600 = 760Li
S8 = S63 = Alpina B7?
S65 has no competition
So, why doesn't BMW make an M7?

You mean 350 at the wheels ... I agree, not the best car to run against in a straight line race. My F10 M5 would be a better candidate to run against an E55 ... but than I guess this tread wouldn't exist

Yep- thinking faster than I can type causes errors like that------ but you knew that I knew that you knew what I knew. LOL....
Agree about the N/A and its sound but the 991 (I got one with pse) sounds much better than a stock RS5. Much better.
Hey bro long time no chat- when did you get the M5? Are you posting at M5Post.com?

You guys be careful, the Alpharetta Popo are really strict and don't put up with much.
I have a co-worker who was at the show in his old VW bus. He said the M5 was putting down so much power getting on the highway, it about twisted the pavement out from under his bus

991's sound very, very nice ... but the 991GT3 at 9000 rpm takes the cake!
Not posting at M5Post ... should I sign up?
BTW, love your R8! Done just like I would
