Thank You sir.
I am glad to see these tools do not look like they have been used much!

I have a 2011 C63, I have the engine tick. However, it does not tick at idle, only one I start moving. It is very distinct from start to about 50 MPH at lower rpm's. Any advice?
Thanks..

Spearsba, how many miles on the car and when was the oil changed last (mileage on oil) and what brand and grade was used ie Mobil1 0-40 or 5w-40 or other.

What is it with AMG's and cams? My C32 had those crappy press fitted cam lobes shifting on the cam shaft and I trashed a motor or two. I priced aftermarket Kleemann cams and they were like $ 4000.00 at the time! It was cheaper to buy a used C32 motor.

Thanks. I bought in Jan 14, MB CPO, 37K miles, now at 41K miles. Have added oil, Mobile1 0W40 recently when "add oil at next refuel" light came on.

Personally have little trust in what a dealer does to get CPO rating on cars. Do yourself a favour and get the oil changed plus filter with the proper oil and filter, better yet DIY to be sure you get just what you need. If you are in a warm climate try using 5W-40,document the oil change and monitor usage in the next few thousand miles.

Thanks, will do an oil change myself. Am in Alabama, so will use 5W40 for the summer. I am also wary of the cpo process.

Yes Spearsba, I lived and worked in Mobile for a year, hot and humid. What you should do is remove the under engine plastic panels,(3) and then take the car for a drive on the highway or at least for enough time to run the oil at normal range of temp. Then return home and with caution ( and mechanics gloves) remove the drain plug and let that oil race out, careful of the temp, it will burn you very fast, also remove the cooler plug and let that drain. with installation use fresh crush washers on the drain plugs, new filter (MB) fleece only, refill 9.5 liters, after starting recheck level, should be right at the full mark on the oil stick. Doing it yourself will at least ensure it is done correctly.
Good Luck

Late to the game, but I came across the thread searching for teh cam lock tool.

Cost at a minimum, 4 * $600 for the cams
Since you have the cams off, best replace the buckets, at 32 * $20
Misc crap (gaskets, bolts etc), probably another 200, but thats just a guess.

My engine is noisy, has been, and is out of warranty by like 6 months, I took my car into the dealer 3 times complaining of a noisy engine, they blew me off saying this was normal. I'm pretty sure the lobes on my cams are completely shot. I plan on pulling the valve cover to take pictures, then pitch a fit with MB Corp to hopefully get them to replace this under warranty. My wife lost her job recently, and there is no way I can now afford to pay to get this repaired (thats my problem of course).

I may just end up selling the car... but I really don't want too..

I just started looking into this because my 07 E63 makes quite a racket if I start it after sitting for more than 2-3 days. Based on the information on the forum and input form my shop and the dealer, it seems I am suffering from the oil bleed down issue with the cam adjuster or the "bucket". The sound goes away in a matter of literally a second and I don't hear it once it is running. I presume once the oil pressure is up, it lubricates the parts and the sound goes away.

I did UOA and there wasn't any anomalies found, specifically in terms of metal content, which is what I thought would be the case. I added 2 bottles of Liqui Moly Cera Tec Friction Modifier to see if that will help with lack of oil. I've just added and ran the car once or twice, so I will have to wait and see.

In terms of the cost, one of the local dealer has cones this once or twice and he says it will be close to $6000 to replace the cams, buckets, and also get the head bolts updated while it is apart. They are taking the head off, obviously, but I do recognize that some folks have done it without taking the head off.

The dealer did mention that alternative is to just make sure the car is ran daily, instead of letting it sit, which would exacerbate the problem.

My car unfortunately is parked at the airport 5 days a week (I live in the DC Area, work in Indianapolis, and fly back and forth every week, another reason wife wants me to sell the car, I am not exactly using it). So it does sit a lot.

It may be a old thread, but is anyone just try to borescope inspection thru oil filler whole ?
