is there such thing as aftermarket airbag for e55 ?

Dealership is trying to tell me my car has an aftermarket airbag. Problem was my srs light turned on throwing a code for resistance to high squib 1 and 2. Original owner of the car gave me all receipts from mb. He was **** and no way had aftermarket airbag installed in steering wheel. Do they even exist? Bastaeds tried getting me for 2200$ repair.

no, they don't. your service adviser and/or tech is an idiot. was the SRS light always on, or did it come on recently? either way, take your car somewhere else.

p.s. not sure what a squib is either ...

Sounds like a bad clock spring and they are trying to hose you on having to buy a new airbag. Get a second opinion.

There is a technical service bulletin on my excact code that I pulled up in sds. It says there was a batch of faulty harnesses that are in steering column the go bad and result in the srs malfunction. I told the dealer I want that harness replaced because it is a no charge.job. that's when the screwed me around saying the airbag is aftermarket. They are dirty money hungry aholes. My service advisor agreed he would have it replaced after I argued with about it, but says problem may still persist, really do wish I brought it somewhere else. And this car has been fine for a year until the code popped up.

There is a updated harness extension available and without seeing it would be my best guess to the problem. By the way it sounds, I would find another dealer in your area.

Airbags very rarely go bad. Chances are a bad connection point. I agree with above about scm harness update. At least the dealer will do it for free. Vs Indy would not.

Turns out they are just really dumb. The last, owner of my car put an amg sticker badge over the Mercedes emblem on the steering wheel like the one you can get in place of hood ornament. That is why they thought it was aftermarket air bag. My service advisor apologized nicely and is taking car if the problem now free if charge as it should of been.
