Brief Encounter With A C63

The European Union is considering a radical new safety measure to cut the number of speed-related accidents.
The Telegraph UK reports the European Commission’s Mobility and Transport Department is considering adopting a speed-restricting camera system that would judge whether the car is being driven over the speed limit, and apply the brakes.
The technology would rely on black boxes linked to satellites, or a camera-based device that can read road signs and adjust the car’s speed accordingly. The latter could also put a cap on the car’s top speed, limiting it to 70 miles per hour (113km/h). The idea may also implicate older cars, which would need to be retro-fitted with the technology.
The measure is reportedly part of the EU’s plans to cut the road toll across Europe by 30,000 people per year.
This is crazy? Most of Europe has some of the lowest driving fatalaties in the world. In fact all countries undercut the united states by at least half??? England has the lowest fatalaties in the world period. Across the channel in France its more than double (must be the wine or those DCVs they run around in)

I have a friend in Mainz with a CLK63 Black Series and I can out run him. Also, another friend from Mainz with a C63 with headers and a tune and he's no problem either.

As anywhere else, the majority of all fatal accidents occur on surface streets below 40mph.

Here is exactly what I have changed or added:
168mm ASP pulley
ASP aluminum pulley set
Goodyear Gator Back belts (they definitely grip better)
VRP log manifold - - - probably one of the last ones produced. This one had beautiful welds, JetHot coated (I know they are not LT's or even shorties, but the improvement in performance was impressive).
Enlarged the primary cat intake side to match the header pipe diameter (factory cats have a smaller intake size than the outlet.
Original driver side intake tube with 50% size reduction replaced with non restrictive passenger side intake tube.
Intake air water/debris shields removed.
Secondary cat delete with custom designed x-pipe (2.75 inlets into expansion chamber to 2.75 outlets).
Originally a Renntech tune which a local dealer in Germany accidentally blew out about 3 years ago. Had a local tuner re-flash with a supposed "custom tune," but I suspect it's a Kleeman box tune (revs to 6,800rpm). I plan to speak with Jerry T re a new flash he can email to me.
Built my own closed fuel rail with 6 port SLR injectors.
80mm ported TB.
K&N's
Phenolic heat spacers
NASA style radiant heat reflective material on intake tubes and air boxes (eliminates preheating of intake air).
CM30 pump with larger HE
When in Germany I use ethanol free ARAL (BP) 102 octane (RON) fuel. I think it's about 97-98 octane PON, but significantly better than our Florida 93 + ethanol. Also, a bottle of Techron every 1,500-2,000 miles. Keeps filters and engine clean and carbon free.
Light weight rotors (equivalent to approximately 40 hp)
CF driveshaft
Quaife LSD
Toe-links
KMACS
Lowered 1" and balanced. Theoretically, this should slightly reduce the drag on an already very slippery design.
As H.G Wells said: "It's the little things."
I suspect there may be a E63TT in the distant future, but quite frankly, I have yet to find a better overall driving machine you can take on long journeys with comfort and performance that exceeds that of some "super cars." And, it still puts a big grin on the face of this old motor sports guy.
My latest victims over the last week have been; Maserati GT; some kind of super bike (but when you start from 100+mph the drag factor overcomes them); Porsche Panamera (non turbo); BMW m3

I tend to cruise between 90 100 mph when traffic permits. For me, going beyond that for a sustained period requires too much continuous concentration and you never know when some guy in a diesel SMART is going to pull out of the right lane into you path. But, I do think those occasional runs to "V8 Kompressor" are just about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.
