Back in 2010 I had to take my E55 to dealer three times to get rid of gas leak. I know this has been a serious problem for others as well. Can someone tell me if there has been a recall for this? My son has my car in Atlanta and he tells me he can smell gas in back of the car. Even though my car is a 2003, I cannot see how MB can charge to fix what is a serious safety issue!

it is a mechanical part that will fail at some point. Back in 2010 do you remember what they fixed when you had a gas leak?
there is some class action law suite going on but I don't think anyone is going to see anything thing with that.

Took my car to atlanta for the weekend once I got home for the first time since I've owned the car. I got the gas smell. Well my car was towed to mercedes (where my dad works) and they told us today to make sure I kept up with all paper work and receipts because mercedes is finally acknowledging the problem. So take it for what it's worth but I guess something's could be in the works

Well they are fixing it. Of course I'm paying but that's why they told me to keep up with my receipts. I'm assuming mercedes plans to reimburse the people that have experienced the issue. Again I don't know the full details but I will be happy to pass it along as I figure more out.

I took my 2005 E55 into the dealership for gas smell and state inspection. The car would not pass inspection. The dealership is replacing the leaky fuel senders free of charge.

The fuel senders were replaced about 1 1/2 years ago due to the same issue under MB extended warranty; extended warranty is now over. They told me the senders were out of part warranty, but they would cover the cost of the replacements. They are ordering the parts now. I have a good relationship with the dealership and have purchased a number of cars there (5) and have them all services by this dealership. This I would assume helped tremendously with this issue.

I had a leak back in June 2011 and had the fuel sending unit, seals and filters replaced under warranty.
I noticed the damn gas smell again this afternoon. A little over 2 years and it's leaking again, WTF?
I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with 171,000 miles and it never had a fuel leak!
