Same reasoning applies to removing a thermostat from an engine's cooling system. Yes, you get better flow, but the coolant doesn't have enough downtime in the radiator to dissipate the heat.

I just read on another thread that was revived yesterday about a 3.4 litre Whipple on an E55. It was unsuccessful due to the heat issue and actually ran much SLOWER than a 2.3 litre due to overheating issues.

I think once the blower gets too big and boost exceeds 10 psi, overheating issues will surface. This does not appear to be isolated to Weistec but they definitely have done something to improve the problem. They will be sending retrofits to existing customers soon. In my situation, the cone filter no longer sits in the middle of the engine bay. Now it is tucked in the corner with a heat shield that completely blocks out any engine heat and also channels air from the front grill into that same driver side corner.

Stock boost is 11.6psi or are you refering to boost on a Whipple?

Ummm did you forget that this is not your thread?

The bigger the blower, the more efficient it is. Do your research. 10psi is nothing for a 2.9L Whipple.

Do not speak on behalf of Weistec unless you are their representative.

FWIW, stock I was seeing ~10.2-10.4. Now with the smaller pulley, I am seeing about ~11.3ish.

I don't think these cars (55K motors) make 11.5 stock, at least not that I heard of anyway.

As a matter of interest, at what altitude are you seeing that boost at ?

The elevation around my parts is about 24m, or roughly 80ft.

EDIT: FYI, I live in one of the lowest points in the state. There are other parts that are 1500-2500ft above sea level.

That's not the first time I've seen 11.6 psi listed around here as stock pressure on a stock motor (no exhaust mods).

Mr. Benz-o-rama, I'm new to the forum and just bought a 2004 SL600 which I am bringing to Eurocharged next week to have just the ECU flashed, should result in 620HP and 720TQ at the crank. I noticed that you used to have a the same car with the same tune. Did you ever upgrade the Heat exchanger and pump, or just left it stock? if stock, did you notice any heat soak issues? I am wondering if I should upgrade these while I am having the car tuned, or is it just a waste of money. Congrats on your 1/4mile times in that car, unreal.

Thanks!

I'll respond in PM. Let's keep Ahmad's thread on track.....

Quick answer is I still have this car and never did cooling upgrades. Yes it heat soaks at the track, and yes I would upgrade the HE if you're gonna track it. You're in good hands with Eurocharged, for sure.

Thank you Sir, I'm going to leave the HE and pump stock since I dont track the car, I drive moderate and will hit on the car once in a while. I have a 2006 Corvette Z06 that I can "get on" if I feel the urge.

So why are you posting in mine? If my Weistec is not ready for MIR, i will bring my Stage 3 built turbo M3 prototype after Mike and Nick finish it up.

After having the motor in and out 3 times in past few weeks and having motor apart several times I have the stock bottom end back in (long story but to keep it short I bought a forged short block that didn't run properly) with ported heads (ARP head studs) and smaller SC pulley and dual Bosch 044 fuel pumps. Car is running lean but already made more power than before. Hopefully have issue resolved Monday with some new numbers to post. This stock motor is pretty stout, I remember people telling me it wouldn't hold past 450whp It is making over 620whp running lean

I wanted to thank Jerry, Paul, and Dan from Eurocharged for going out of their way helping me get this car ready. Also my friends that have helped me wrench on the car through the night several times (We actually swapped heads on the Eurocharged DC dyno last week overnight literally ) Wouldn't be able to do any of this without them. Couldn't ask for better friends!

Was it a sleeved motor or did they try to use aftermarket pistons in the alusil bore?

Flashback to my motor build with Vadim. Aftermarket pistons in alusil bore blew the motor within a day!. Block was unusable too!
