Wont start. Rolling in Park. Please help!!
Hi.. Please help... This is frustrating
I parked my car today and went to get out but the car started rolling a bit.
Put my foot on the brake to stop it and to check to see if I had put it in park. It was in park (with a P) on the dash (maybe didnt get fully engaged?)..... because now ...
it acts like it is neutral the whole time. whether in Park, Reverse, or Drive. the car still rolls... It has full lights and power...It wont start in neutral OR Park.. It may think that it in neutral still? Do you think a ECU/TCU reset by disconnecting battery for a few hours would help get it physically back into gear?
Hmm.........Any suggestions welcome.. Obviously, if I cant figure out something soon, I will bring to my Tranny guy...
thanks for any info..

Yes,Like I said I will go to my tranny guy/indy....(but they are closed til monday.) And believe it or not some people like to investigate and get info before going to a mechanic. Many times ALLOT of people have the same issue and they can be sometimes be resolved easily without going to a mechanic..
Any info welcome...

"Im not trying to hate or anything but take it to a indy repair shop before you post this on the forums man." Just my $.02
Biggking, are you sure you can spare the extra penny.
Thought this forum was for help and assistance to fellow owners from ones in the know or might know!

Ok..great info....is this an easy thing to do on site where it died? Or must tow to my tranny shop for them to do it?
Also, curious as to about how much that may cost at an indy shop if I didnt have a warranty?
Thanks so much..I feel a little better..(but I'm waiting to hear back from you to see how much/big of a deal it could be)..
Thanks again
Ps. Thanks for pointing out that I'm just looking for info...lol...some people...Ohh he's a former BMW dude, that explains a little

Not everyone is interested in running to spend money sir, so coming here was his way to see if maybe he can fix it and save some cash. Plus in my area the damn Indy shops are more expensive then the dealer...

Ya... sounds like linkage. Used to happen to my work van from time to time but I was able to climb under it to do it.... I would think your biggest issue would be getting the car high enough without a tow and access to a lift.

Even if it were 3000 lbs lighter, that would too heavy for me to be underneath without a lift.
Be safe; put in on a flatbed and get it to a shop.

What? Are you kidding me? Do you know how much help you can get from some of these guys on here. How much help I've received or have provided due to experience. Come on man the guy you can tell is really down, take that negative attitude elsewhere bro.

Hi,
Just wanted to post the conclusion. It turned out to be the Clip on the shifter cable. As a well informed member here posted. I guess it isn't that uncommon for a shop to ignore or not use the clip correctly (as they had worked on the tranny 6 months prior).
They fixed it up for nothing and sent me on my way. All good
Whewww. scared for a minute there
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Anyway, glad you got your easy fix fixed from a 'GOOD' guy's recommendation not to mention's BURGER KINGS great response!
Can you imagine that he sells parts and lists or advertises that in his sig and thinks that guys will actually go out of their way to buy parts from him with responses like that?

Have them throw some new bushings in there too. When the transmission is out, its a very easy job to do. Even if they are ok right now, doesnt hurt to do a little extra maintenance ahead of time. Its a several hundred dollar job a the dealer if your doing the bushings alone witht the transmission in.... royal PITA. With the tranny out, It shouldnt be much more than half an hour labor or so.
