2006 E55 AMG....Renntech Stage 4.....620hp....90,000 miles....for sale.....OPINIONS
It's a 2006.
Just curious if I should worry about 90,000 miles.?
Should I do a compression check?
Anything else that can be checked to find a problem that might be hiding...?
I'm not knowledgeable on these cars yet, but I'm sure I want to get one. This or a 2008 E63 AMG.
Thanks....

Well the first thing is to check the rear tires for even wear, if passenger side is near bald, low ball the price. I personally would never buy a dyno mule so if it pushing 620 horse obviously it has been used. Has the E63 been a one owner car if so look more into it.

LOL, you guys are obviously a little more biased to the 55 as I am for the 63, we are standing on either side of the fence but at least it's the right fence. Check out the car well, it may be a really well maintained ride. Start the car up cold with you in front hood open and just listen your ears will tell you! also check for smoke out the other end on start up!

Anything else that these cars have as an issue that I should have Mercedes check out.......?

having driven both the 55 and currently own an 07 63 i can tell you that though the 55 feels faster the 63 is by far much more fun to drive. with a tune and res delete its simply amazing. the 63 is much more refined over the 55 and shifts like night n day especially after the tune. personally i'd give some power/speed for what i got on the 63 but to each his own. either way you'll enjoy what you end up getting. I just like the ease of modding the E55 compared to very little that can be done with the E63.
But yes.....I like the E63 much better.....

lol i didnt really vote for both. You really cant go wrong with either. I was in the same dilemma earlier this year when i was looking to buy an E AMG. I went back and forth between the 55 and 63 but ultimately ended up with a 63. So far I only did a tune and res delete, maybe exhaust in the near future but thats about all thats available on these cars. I must say I am beyond happy I chose the 63. Its just so much fun to drive and its in no way lacking power. Sometimes I drive it and even after 6 months of owning it i'm thinking wow this thing has power and sometimes im thinking wish i had a little more but at the end of the day i couldnt be happier with the 63. My buddy has a 55 and driving it is like a different car. its not nearly as smooth and the shifting sucks which takes half the fun out of it. I drive my car in M mode probably 90% of the time which is what makes it so fun. Another reason i'm glad i didint get the 55 is because i know how sick i am when it comes to modding and had i gone with the 55 id be spending endless time and $$$. Besides I drive my car hard and having the supercharger quit on me is not an option.

Do the sc'ers actually fail...? What happens when they do..? How expensive is that to repair...?

i really dont know but i'm sure someone here will gladly give you more info. All i can tell you is when i drove my buddy's 55 i drove it pretty hard for about 10 minutes, after that it drove like a C230 . For a minute I thought i screwed up his car. He later told me that its normal on the 55's. That made my decision to buy a 63 much easier.

So far I have never heard anybody got SC fail. I know they last at least 200K miles or even more. In fact, the 55K engine is more reliable than early 6.2 engine. Do some search about early 6.2 engine have some issues.

He had a bad IC pump which causes the SC to shutdown until it cools off . $100 fix. Normal for the pumps to fail is all.

It's belt driven, so it always continues to spin and create boost...right...?
Or is there a clutch that can release the pulley...?

If you have to ask that question about the supercharger clutch, you should perhaps spend some time with the sticky threads and search button.
If you're a gear head as your other cars would suggest, the 63 shouldn't even be an option. The 55 is a great platform to modify into stupidly fast , yet docile and smooth sedans. The 63 is a great engine for the little C car but is a turd in the big cars. It sounds great though!
Rewind ten years and Think NA 2V 4.6 Mustangs. Back in the day they were good for your wife, little sister, or for the guy that sells insurance down the street that isn't into modding cars and really just likes the sound and the image but the real petrol heads would have traded 2 of them for an older 5.0.
That's the NA E63/SL63/CL63, etc. Mercedes missed the target big time with them in many peoples eyes.

OP-
Skip the E55 and get a C63 AMG.
Hottest car on the market, hands down. Headers, Xpipe, exhaust and tune = low 11 sec car easily.
Now, if you can afford one ... C63 AMG BS.
And are you serious when you ask if the blower has a clutch? Not sure here ...
