Arrow damn, had to get new shoes on the E55...

yesterday the wife and I were shopping and saw the rear passenger tire - REALLY low so I quickly went to the nearest service station - measured about 8lbs of air

I put it back up to 36 pounds, but I figured I should get it checked out this morning...

ends up the rear passenger tire was down to the cords on the inside and both fronts were worn as well - no wonder it lost air...

so 30 minutes later, I'm sporting some new Michelin Sport AS3s as there were no Hankooks available and the PSS were just too much...

since it my daily - they got pretty good reviews

Not as much "new shoes" as new soles.

LOL yes

I wasn't really shopping for tires, so the shop guy really pushed the Michelins - he's been there for a while, so I trusted his decision... the reviews so far that I've seen are pretty stellar

Don't have any input on the AS3, but I love my PSS.

Toad, do you track your 55k? I was running at Roebling road this weekend with a set of PSS's that have about 1100 miles and 3 track days on them. After the second session I noticed that my front left tire had started chunking right where the compound meets the sidewall. Had to leave the track and an hour later I was back with a new set of PSS's on the front. Ran two sessions back to back and checked the tires and the front left had what looks like tears in the same area!! Any thoughts?? Anybody??

i think Michelin has micro-siping on their tires - maybe a separation point?

btw - these are OE tires on the new E63 AMG

LOL - well, it smells like gas each time I fill-up now, so you may hear a few choice words until I get it to the dealer

I was surprised how fast they went - Saturday I put 200 miles on the car, Sunday about 3 - and the tire went flat during the 3 miles...

Was running 41 psi front left and 40 everywhere else. Perhaps more camber?

I will look into it, but its in the same area where the other set of fronts started chunking down to the belt. I will see if i can get a picture of it in the am.

Ah, the problem with tracking these heavy cars.

If that was your cold pressure, it was too high...prolonged tracking will raise the pressure significantly and general you'll find starting off in the 20s will quickly get you beyond where you want to be...the best choice though is to use a track tire for the track...

I had a nail in my tire this weekend too, i only knew because the tire was visibly low. At what point does the TPMS indicator come up? I was under the impression that it would come on as soon as the tire pressure dropped.. guess i was wrong.

Guessing once at startup if pressure is off... otherwise you gotta cycle it. By the way, I DO cycle it while driving and check.

PSS only cost $19 more than PAS and $56.00 more than PAS 3 for a set of 4.

And all E55s have TPMS

wow the PSS has come down ALOT since I last checked.... they used to be ~$1,600 mounted!

the tires are nearly identical except for the tread life, I drive this sucker in the rain as well and even the Hankooks can get greasy when it's wet
